Seton Hill continued PSAC West play with an important doubleheader in Erie against Gannon on Friday afternoon.
Gannon took game one of the doubleheader over the Griffins by the score of 3-2. The Griffins responded with a 9-0, six inning win in game two. SHU is now 32-10 overall and 20-4 in the west. Gannon is 19-11 overall and 14-6 in the we
SHU took a 1-0 lead over Gannon in the top of the first inning.
Nina Grandey reached on a bunt single and stole second. She moved to third on a
Camryn Murphy ground out and scored on a
Morgan Toal RBI groundout.
Gannon tied the score with a run in the bottom half of the first inning. They added two more in the third to take a 3-1 lead over the Griffins.
SHU got one run back in the fifth.
Lauren Dellett drew a leadoff walk and stole second. She later scored on a Grandey RBI single.
The Griffins threatened in the seventh with a runner at third with one out but a ground out and strikeout stranded the tying run at third.
Grandey and
Kassidy Wittig each had two hits. Dellett struck out nine in the loss.
SHU took a 1-0 lead in game two on a one out solo shot from Grandey in the third. The Griffins added another run in the fifth. Grandey drew a leadoff walk and stole second. She scored on a
Grace Paredes single.
The Griffins put the game away in the sixth. With one out, pinch hitters
Angelina LaMarca and
Lacey Lynn singled to put runners on first and third. Grandey walked to load the bases. Murphy drew a bases loaded walk to force in the third run.
Bre Athey scored when Paredes reached on a fielders choice. Toal singled in a run and Wittig drew a bases loaded walk to make it 6-0.
Abby Smearman then cleared the bases with a double to extend the Griffins lead to 9-0.
Paredes led the offense with two hits. Grandey scored three runs and Smearman drove in three.
Logan Hartman won her 18
th game with another complete game shutout. Hartman struck out nine in the win.
The Griffins will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Edinboro for a PSAC West doubleheader.
