Griffins Sweep UPJ In a Pair of Five Inning Wins

Seton Hill began a new week of play with a PSAC West doubleheader in Greensburg, PA against Pitt Johnstown on Sunday afternoon.   
 
SHU defeated Pitt Johnstown 14-1 in game one of the doubleheader.  The Griffins completed the sweep of the Mountain Cats with an 8-0, five inning win in game two.  SHU is now 31-9 overall and 19-3 in the west.
 
The Griffins sent 13 batters to the plate and scored seven runs as they took an early lead over UPJ in the bottom of the first inning.  Nina Grandey singled and stole second. Camryn Murphy walked.  Grace Paredes singled to score Grandey.  Morgan Toal singled to drive in Murphy and give SHU a 2-0 lead.  Kassidy Witting reached on a fielders choice with Paredes scoring.  Lauren Dellett then hit a grand slam over the center field wall to give the Griffins a 7-0 lead. 
 
UPJ got one back in the second with an unearned run.  SHU answered back in their half of the second.  Wittig and Brooke Clelland singled.  Wittig scored on a Brooklyn Fukushima groundout.  Cleland scored when Dellett singled.  After an out Grandey went oppo taco to increase the Griffins lead to 11-1. 
 
SHU continued to add on in the fourth.  Olivia Calvetti singled with one out.  Caroline Cherekos reached on an error.  Juliette Vybiral singled to score pinch runner Isabella Rodriguez and extend the lead to 12-1.  Kelleigh Pollock added two more runs with a double. 
 
Grandey, Paredes and Dellett each had two hits.  Dellett drove in five.  She earned her 14th win with another complete game effort.  She struck out five. 
 
It did not take the Griffins long to get on the scoreboard in game two.  With one out in the first, Murphy lined a missile over the left center field wall.  SHU added two more runs on a double from Wittig. 
 
SHU added four more in the fourth inning.  Wittig tripled to lead off the inning.  Brooke Cleland drew a walk.  Pinch runner Pollock stole second with Wittig scoring on an error.  Fukushima singled to score Pollock.  Bre Athey singled in a run and the seventh run scored on an RBI ground out from Grandey. 
 
Fukushima went 3-3 with 2 RBIs to lead the offense.  Murphy and Wittig each added two hits.  Wittig scored three runs.  Logan Hartman earned her 17th win of the season.  She threw another complete game shutout allowing just two hits. 
 
The Griffins will return to action on Friday when they travel to Edinboro for a PSAC West doubleheader on Friday.
