Seton Hill closed the four game PSAC West series as they hosted Indiana (PA) in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
IUP held the Griffins to just four hits in a 3-0 loss in game one. The Griffins responded and pounded out twelve hits in a 10-6 come from behind win in game two to salvage the final game of the four game set. SHU is now 23-12 overall and 9-7 in the west. IUP improves to 19-10 overall and 10-6 in the west.
Both pitchers were cruising thru the first four innings of game one with neither team really threatening to score.
The Griffins finally threatened to score in the top of the fifth. With an out,
Matt Frazetta and
Owen Henne singled and
Elijah Snider walked to load the bases but IUP used a strikeout and fly out to get out of the inning.
IUP got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth when they scored three runs on four hits.
Aidan Layton struck out six in the loss.
Game two was a different story from game one as both teams offenses were on display.
IUP scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a Griffin error as they took the early 2-0 lead.
That lead did not last long as the Griffins tied the game in the top of the third. Snider doubled to lead off the inning. Later in the inning,
Owen Sabol doubled to score
Jack Whalen who reached on a fielders choice.
Jack Oberdorf followed with an RBI triple that tied the game at two.
The Griffins took the lead in the fifth with a two out solo shot from Sabol that gave the Griffins a 3-2 lead.
That lead did not last very long as IUP took advantage of some Griffin wildness that included three walks and a hit batter in scoring four times to take a 6-3 lead.
Seton Hill then responded with a touchdown and extra point in the top of the sixth.
Max Mandler doubled to lead off the inning.
Joe Fiedor singled to score Mandler and cut the IUP lead to 6-4.
Gage Wheaton singled to put runners on first and second. Snider was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Braden Durham doubled to left field to drive in two and tie the game at six. Whalen then reached on a throwing error on a bunt with two more runs scoring. Oberdorf added an RBI single and Fiedor hit a sacrifice fly to give SHU a 10-6 lead.
Ian Korn threw two innings of scoreless relief in game two after
Evan Rossi picked up the win.
Max Mandler went 3-4 in the win. Sabol and Oberdorf each added two hits. Sabol, Oberdorf, Whalen and Fiedor each drove in two.
The Griffins will continue play on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to West Liberty for a non conference matchup.
