Seton Hill continued play with a PSAC West doubleheader on Senior Day in Greensburg, PA against Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins outscored the Lakers 14-8 in game one of the doubleheader. SHU completed the sweep of Mercyhurst with a 6-5 win. SHU is now 27-9 overall and 15-3 in the west.
Mercyhurst jumped on the Griffins for a run in the top of the first inning as they took a 1-0 lead.
The Griffins answered right back in their half of the inning.
Nina Grandey led off with a triple and later scored on a single from
Grace Paredes.
Camryn Murphy, who walked also scored on Paredes hit courtesy of an error. SHU made it 3-1 on a double steal by Paredes and
Morgan Toal.
The Lakers cut the Griffins lead to 3-2 in the top of the third inning.
SHU answered back in their half of the third. Paredes led off the inning with a double and scored on a Toal single. Pinch runner Isabella Rodriguez then later scored on a
Lauren Dellett single to extend the SHU lead to 5-2.
The Lakers picked up four runs in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead over the Griffins. The big hit was a three run homer with one out in the inning.
SHU retook the lead right back in the bottom of the fifth inning as they sent 11 batters to the plate. Dellett drew a leadoff walk and scored on a triple from
Mackenzie Zang. Grandey doubled to give SHU a 7-6 lead. Paredes followed with a two RBI double that increased the Griffin lead to 9-6.
Kassidy Wittig singled to drive in the tenth run and
Brooklyn Fukushima homered to center field as the Griffins took a 12-6 lead.
Mercyhurst cut the lead to 12-8 with a pair of runs in the sixth.
The Griffins answered right back in their half of the sixth.
Alexis Bonatch led off with a walk and later scored on a Murphy double. Toal increased the lead to 14-8 with an RBI single that scored Murphy.
Murphy, Paredes and Toal each had three hits. Grandey and Zang added two hits. Dellett struck out seven in the win.
Seton Hill took an early lead in game two, scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Grandey reached on a bunt base hit and stole second. She scored on a Paredes single as SHU took a 1-0 lead.
The Lakers retook the lead with a two run homer in the top of the second inning. They added a third run in the third as they increased their lead to 3-1.
SHU got one of those runs back in the third. Grandey drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a Murphy single. Both stole a base and Grandey scored on a sacrifice fly from Toal.
The Griffins retook the lead in the fourth. Fukushima led off with a single. Zang drew a walk.
Abby Smearman singled to load the bases. A pair of runs scored on a single from
Bre Athey and then the Griffins made it 6-3 when Grandey singled.
Grandey and Smearman each had two hits.
Logan Hartman earned her 15
th win of the season with another complete game effort.
The Griffins will return to action on Sunday when they host Clarion for a PSAC West doubleheader.
