Griffins Swept at Spring Games

After an off day on Wednesday, the Griffins returned to the fields in Florida with a pair of games on Thursday at the Auburndale Sports Complex.
 
In game one, Thomas Moor took advantage of three Griffin errors in an 8-4 win.  In game two, Glenville scored six unearned runs as they defeated the Griffins 11-6.  SHU drops to 9-5 overall. 
 
SHU took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first against Thomas Moor.  After two outs, Camryn Murphy singled.  Morgan Toal walked and both runners scored when Grace Paredes homered.
 
The Saints scored four times in the bottom half of the inning, two of them unearned to take a 4-3 lead.  In the Griffin second, Brooklyn Fukushima singled and later scored on an error to tie the game at four. 
 
Thomas Moor added a run in the second and two more in the third to take a 7-4 lead.  They scored their final run in the fifth. 
 
Toal doubled and Paredes homer were the only extra base hits for the Griffins in game one. 
 
In game two, Glenville jumped on the board with an unearned run in the top of the first.  Glenville added five more unearned runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead. 
 
SHU cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the inning.  Lauren Dellett walked to lead off the inning and scored when Mackenzie Zang homered.  Brooklyn Fukushima singled and later scored on an error to trim the lead to 6-3. 
 
The Pioneers added a run on a solo homer in the third.  SHU trimmed the lead to two in the bottom of the third.  Murphy doubled to lead off the inning.  Toal singled and both scored on a Grace Paredes two RBI hit as the Griffins cut the lead to 7-5. 
 
Glenville scored two more times in the fourth to increase their lead to 9-5.  Murphy knocked in Bre Athey who singled to cut the lead to 9-6.  The Pioneers added two more in the fifth.
 
Murphy and Fukushima each had three hits. 
 
The Griffins will close out their Florida trip with a pair of games on Friday against Northwood and Lynn.
