Eleven Run Inning Carries Griffins to Big Win

Seton Hill continued their Florida trip with an early morning matchup with Ohio Dominican on Wednesday morning in Davenport.

The Griffins broke a 6-6 tie with an eleven run fifth inning to defeat ODU by the score of 17-6 in seven innings.  SHU is now 8-3 overall while ODU falls to 7-4.

Ohio Dominican took advantage of a little wildness from the Griffins to take a 1-0 lead over the Griffins in the top of the first.

SHU responded right back in their half of the first.  Jack Whalen reached on an error to lead off the inning and Jack Oberdorf homered over the left center field wall to give SHU a 2-1 lead.

After ODU tied the score at two, SHU scored three times in the bottom of the second.  Max Mandler reached on a throwing error.  He later scored on an error when Whalen reached on a fielders choice.  Oberdorf then followed with a bomb to left center on the first pitch he saw to extend the Griffins lead to 5-2.

ODU scored a run in the top of the third but the Griffins got that run right back in their half of the inning.  Braden Durham doubled to lead off the inning and stole third.  He scored on a Matt Frazetta double to give SHU a 6-3 lead.

ODU scored three times in the top of the sixth using two home runs to start the rally and tie the game at six.

SHU broke the game open with 11 runs in the fifth.  Owen Sabol doubled to lead off the inning.  Max Mandler singled and stole second.  Whalen walked to load the bases with two outs.  Oberdorf and Owen Mandler had back to back two RBI doubles to give SHU a 10-6 lead.  Frazetta later doubled in two to increase the lead to 12-6.  Noah Sweeney doubled to score two and extend the lead to 15-6.  Oberdorf then drew a bases loaded walk and Owen Mandler was hit by a pitch to score the 17th run.

Oberdorf led the offense with a 4-4 day with 2 homers, a double and 7 RBI.  Frazetta had three doubles and 3 RBI.  Sabol had two hits.  Owen Mandler drove in three and Sweeney added two RBI.  Jack Laird threw three scoreless innings to earn the win.

The Griffins are scheduled to return to action on Thursday afternoon when they take on Ashland in Davenport, Florida as they continue their spring trip.
