Seton Hill Knocks off Top Ranked and Unbeaten Tampa in 11

Seton Hill continued their Florida trip with a tough matchup on Monday evening as they traveled to top ranked and undefeated Tampa.
 
The Griffins defeated the Spartans 6-5 in 11 innings to knock Tampa from the ranks of the unbeatens.  SHU is now 7-3 overall while Tampa falls to 17-1. 
 
The Griffins struck first at Tampa scoring in the top of the first inning.  Jack Whalen singled and stole second.  Owen Mandler drew a walk and both executed a double steal to put runners on second and third with one out.  Whalen scored on an RBI ground out from Braden Durham to give SHU a 1-0 lead.  Tampa answered back with two runs in their half of the first on a hit batter, two walks and two hits.  SHU got a key doubleheader to get out of the inning and hold the Spartans to just two runs. 
 
Seton Hill tied the score at two after just two hitters in the top of the second.  Owen Sabol doubled to the left center field gap.  Jakob Haynes singled to right center to score Sabol and tie the score at two. 
 
The Griffins retook the lead in the top of the fifth.  Noah Sweeney led off with a double.  Oberdorf drew a walk to put two runners on.  Owen Mandler singled as the runners were off on a 3-2 pitch to score Sweeney and put the Griffins in front 3-2. 
 
SHU added on in the sixth.  Owen Sabol drew a one out walk.  He stole second and scored when Max Mandler doubled down the right field line to extend the Griffins lead to 4-2. 
 
Tampa got one run back in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 4-3. 
 
Max Mandler with a leadoff bomb to left center extended the Griffins lead to 5-3 in the top of the ninth. 
 
Tampa scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score at five. 
 
Both teams went 1-2-3 in the tenth.  The Griffins struck in the eleventh.  Aidan Shephard doubled to lead off the inning.  Max Mandler reached on an infield single to put runners on first and third with no one out.  Shephard scored on a double play to give SHU the lead. 
 
Christian Zilli threw a perfect bottom half of the inning to close out the win.
 
Max Mandler led the offense with three hits.  Haynes added two hits.  Brandon Bergert went six innings, giving up just two runs on four hits while striking out seven.  Zilli earned the save. 
 
 
The Griffins are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday morning when they take on Ohio Dominican in Davenport, Florida as they continue their spring trip.
