Softball Splits Doubleheader at Mercyhurst

Seton Hill began PSAC West play with a doubleheader in Erie against Mercyhurst on Sunday afternoon.   
 
The Griffins scored ten times in the final three innings of a 10-0, 6 inning win in game one of the doubleheader.  Mercyhurst earned the split with a 5-4 win in game two.  SHU is now 13-7 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC West. 
 
In the fourth of game one, Morgan Toal singled with one out.  Brooke Cleland followed with an RBI double to give SHU a 1-0 lead.  Brooklyn Fukushima followed with a single.  Mackenzie Zang drew a walk.  Lauren Dellett followed with a two RBI double to give SHU a 3-0 lead. 
 
SHU added two more in the fifth.  Nina Grandey singled and stole second and third.  Camryn Murphy walked and Grandey scored on a sacrifice fly from Grace Paredes.  Toal drew another walk and both Murphy and Toal scored on a two RBI double from Cleland as SHU took a 6-0 lead. 
 
Toal drove in two and Fukushima added an RBI in the sixth as the Griffins built a 10-0 lead. 
 
Fukushima led the offense with three hits.  Toal, Cleland and Dellett each added two hits.  Cleland drove in three while Toal and Dellett added two RBI.  Dellett also threw six scoreless innings while giving up two hits and striking out nine to earn the win. 
 
SHU took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a leadoff homer from Camryn Murphy.  SHU added a second run in the inning after Toal walked and scored on a Fukusima RBI single as SHU took a 2-0 lead. 
 
Mercyhurst responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as they took a 5-2 lead.  The final three runs scored were unearned. 
 
Nina Grandey drew a one out walk in the fifth.  She stole second and scored when Murphy doubled.  Toal followed with a double to cut the lead to 5-4. 
 
Murphy had two hits and drove in two for SHU.
 
The Griffins will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Pitt Johnstown.
