Seton Hill made the trip to the USA Lacrosse Facility in Sparks, MD for a top 25 matchup with #15 New Haven on Sunday afternoon.
The Griffins got a spectacular performance from
Allison Hathaway in goal and
Carleigh Sutfin scored 53 seconds into overtime to give the Griffins a 13-12 victory over the Chargers.
Skylar Orlowski and
Mila Udovicic scored in a two minute stretch to give the Griffins an early 2-0 lead with 12:39 left in the first quarter. After a New Haven tally, Udovicic scored her second of the game to put SHU in front 3-1. SHU led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.
The Chargers scored the first two goals of the second quarter as they took a 4-3 lead with 12:12 to play in the half. The Griffins then scored the final three goals of the quarter to take a 6-4 lead into the halftime break.
Tori Krapp, Udovicic and
Makenna Twombly scored for the Griffins in the run.
It did not take long for New Haven to tie it as they scored twice in the first three minutes of the third quarter to tie the contest at six. SHU then responded with three goals in a minute and forty seconds to take a 9-6 lead. Udovicic scored twice and
Grace Agnello scored on a free position shot.
Amara Forsyth answered a Charger goal to put SHU in front 10-7 with 6:20 to play. UHN scored three goals to close out the period including two in the final thirty seconds to tie the match at 10 after three quarters.
Agnello and Orlowski scored just under two minutes apart as the Griffins took an 12-10 lead with 8:38 left in the contest. The Chargers then took advantage of a ton of cards called on the Griffins to score two goals and tie the game at 12 with 4:34 to play. Hathaway then made three saves including one on a free position shot with less than five seconds to play to send the game to overtime.
Udovicic won the opening draw of the overtime period and Sutfin scored 53 seconds in when she ripped a shot over the keeper to give the Griffins the win.
Hathaway made a career high 15 saves in net to earn the win. Udovicic led the team with five goals, three assists and eight draw controls. Orlowski added two goals and three assists. Agnello also scored twice.
Makayla Kintner and
Kara Gosnell each had three caused turnovers.
The Griffins will host Edinboro on Wednesday as they open up PSAC West play.
