Griffins Sweep Grand Valley

Seton Hill concluded an important three game set with Grand Valley State on Saturday afternoon as the team's played a pair of nine inning games.   
 
Seton Hill took game one of the doubleheader by the score of 6-2.  SHU completed the three game sweep of the Lakers with a 7-3 win in game two.  SHU is now 12-5 on the season while Grand Valley falls to 8-8. 
 
The Griffins jumped in front in the second inning of game one.  Max Mandler singled to lead off the inning.  Michael Gregos was hit by a pitch.  Jared Dowey reached on an error that scored Mandler.  Jack Oberdorf then tripled to right center field to score two and give SHU a 3-0 lead. 
 
Grand Valley scored once in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1.  The Griffins got that run right back in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Jack Whalen
 
Owen Mandler scored the fourth run with an RBI ground out in the fifth. 
 
The Lakers added a run in the eighth to trim the lead to 5-2.  Whalen knocked in the sixth run of the game with a single in the eighth. 
 
Oberdorf led the offense with three hits.  Max Mandler added two hits.  Oberdorf and Whalen knocked in two.  Andino Vecchiolla went five strong to earn the win.  He struck out seven. 
 
SHU took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two.  Whalen drew a leadoff walk.  He moved to second on a balk and third on a fielders choice from Oberdorf.  Matt Frazetta knocked in Whalen with a sacrifice fly.  Max Mandler followed with a two run shot to left center giving the Griffins a 3-0 lead. 
 
Grand Valley got two of those runs back in their half of the second inning.  The Griffins responded with a run in their half of the second.  Michael Gregos singled moved to second on a Noah Sweeney ground out.  Joe Alcorn singled to right field to score Gregos and give SHU a 4-2 lead. 
 
SHU added an insurance run in the seventh.  With one out, Joe Alcorn drew a walk.  He moved to second on a wild pitch and scored when Jack Oberdorf singled to extend the lead to 5-2. 
 
The Lakers got that run back in the top of the eighth to trim the lead to 5-3.  SHU got that run and more right back in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI triple from Gregos to extend the lead to 6-3.  Sweeney made it 7-3 with an RBI single. 
 
Gregos led the offense with three hits.  Max Mandler drove in two.  Aidan Layton earned the win with six innings of work.  He struck out six and allowed two runs.  Michael Marinchak earned the save with three scoreless innings.  He struck out two. 
 
The Griffins will begin PSAC West play next weekend with a four game set with Mercyhurst.
