Softball Completes 4-0 Weekend with Sweep at Barton

Seton Hill continued their weekend trip in North Carolina with a doubleheader at Barton on Sunday afternoon in Wilson, NC. 
 
Lauren Dellett threw a one hitter and the Griffins had 11 hits in a 9-0, five inning with in game one.  SHU completed the sweep with a 5-4 win in game two.  The Griffins are now 4-0 to start the season. 
 
The Griffins took the lead in the top of the second inning of game one with a three run inning.  Morgan Toal doubled to lead off the inning.  Pinch runner Bre Athey scored on a Lauren Dellett RBI single.  Kassidy Wittig doubled to put runners on second and third.  Nina Grandey made it 3-0 with a two run double. 
 
SHU added three more in the third.  Camryn Murphy tripled to lead off the inning.  Grace Paredes drew a walk.  Murphy and pinch runner Alexis Bonatch executed a double steal to give SHU a 4-0 lead.  Dellett and Wittig added RBI singles in the inning to give the Griffins a 6-0 lead.  The Griffins added another run in the fourth on a solo homer from Murphy as SHU took a 7-0 lead. 
 
Seton Hill pushed across two more in the fifth inning.  Mackenzie Zang drew a leadoff walk.  Wittig singled to put runners on first and second.  Grandey knocked in pinch runner Isabella Rodriguez with an RBI single.  Later in the inning, Wittig scored on a sacrifice fly from Murphy to make it 9-0. 
 
Dellett earned the complete game victory throwing a one hitter.  She struck out five in the win and allowed the hit with one out in the fifth.  She also drove in two at the plate.  Wittig went 3-3 with a double and homer.  Grandey drove in three with two hits.  Murphy knocked in two with a triple and homer. 
 
Barton took advantage of a leadoff walk to start game two as they took a 1-0 lead over the Griffins in the bottom of the first inning. 
 
Seton Hill took the lead with three runs in the third.  Wittig led off the inning with a double and stole third.  Grandey reached on an error to put runners on second and third.  Wittig scored on an RBI groundout from Brooklyn Fukushima.  Murphy tripled to knock in Grandey and give SHU a 2-1 lead.  Toal followed with a double to score Murphy and give SHU a 3- 1 lead. 
 
The Bulldogs answered right back in their half of the third with a leadoff homer.  SHU added two more runs after two outs in the fourth.  Wittig doubled with two outs and scored on a Grandey RBI triple.  Fukushima knocked in Grandey with a single to give the Griffins a 5-2 lead. 
 
Barton scored twice with two outs in the seventh but Dellett got a fly out to center with the bases loaded to end the game. 
 
Logan Hartman earned the win in the circle, going five innings and striking out three.  Dellett got the final six outs for the save.  Wittig had two doubles to lead SHU.  Murphy had two hits, including a triple and RBI.  Fukushima drove in two and Toal and Grandey added an RBI.
 
The Griffins are scheduled to host Wheeling on Tuesday, February 20th in a doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.
