Offense Carries Griffins to Sweep of Wheeling

Seton Hill played their home opener on Tuesday afternoon as they hosted Wheeling in a non conference doubleheader.    
 
Seton Hill took game one by a 10-3 score as they pounded out 14 hits.  The offense stayed hot in an 18-7, 5 inning win in game two.  SHU is now 6-0 on the season. 
 
The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on back to back doubles from Kassidy Wittig and Camryn Murphy
 
SHU scored three times in the second inning by playing a little long ball.  Mackenzie Zang homered to center field with one out.  Brooklyn Fukushima drew a four pitch walk and scored on a double from Bre AtheyNina Grandey made it 4-0 with a solo shot to left field after two outs. 
 
Wheeling got a run back in the top of the fourth to cut the Griffins lead to 4-1.  SHU answered with four runs in their half of the fourth.  After one out, Brooklyn Fukushima doubled.  She scored on a Wittig single.  Grandey drew a walk and Murphy made it 8-1 with a three run shot to right center field. 
 
The Cards cut the lead to 8-2 in the top of the fifth.  The added a run in the sixth before RBI singles from Zang and Fukushima made it 10-3 in the sixth.    
 
Seven different Griffins had two hits in the win.  Murphy homered and doubled and drove in four.  Zang homered and drove in two.  Lauren Dellett improved to 3-0 with the complete game win.  She struck out nine in the win. 
 
Wheeling took a 1-0 lead over the Griffins in the top of the first inning of game two. 
 
The Griffins got those runs back and more in the bottom half of the inning.  Grandey led off with a single.  Both Wittig and Murphy walked to load the bases.  Morgan Toal cleared the bases with a double to the right center field gap.  Toal scored on a sacrifice fly from Grace Paredes as SHU took a 4-1 lead. 
 
SHU added four more in the second inning.  Athey led off the inning with a triple and scored on a Grandey two run homer to center.  Murphy walked and scored on a Toal double.  Toal scored on an Abby Smearman single and SHU led 8-2. 
 
SHU added two more in the third as they increased their lead to 10-2.  Angelina LaMarca knocked in Brooklyn Fukushima to give SHU a 11-3 lead in the fourth.  Murphy then followed with her second three run shot of the game to give SHU a 14-3 lead.  Smearman had an RBI double and Paredes added a two run shot to give SHU a 17-3 lead. 
 
Smearman and Fukushima each had three hits for the Griffins.  Smearman drove in three with two doubles.  Grandey and Toal each added two hits.  Toal drove in four.  Murphy and Paredes each had three RBI.  Logan Hartman improved to 3-0 in the circle with the win. 
 
The Griffins are scheduled to travel to Charleston (WV) on Friday for a regional doubleheader.
