Griffins Swept at #19 Charleston

Seton Hill hit the road for an early and important regional doubleheader as the Griffins traveled to #19 Charleston (WV).    
 
Charleston scored a pair of runs in each of the first two innings as they defeated the Griffins by a 4-1 score in game one.  UC then exploded for 11 runs in the fourth inning of game two for a 14-5, 5 inning win to complete the sweep of the Griffins.  SHU is now 6-2 overall while UC improves to 4-0.
 
The Golden Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the first inning on two RBI doubles.  Charleston made it 4-0 in the second inning using an error, double and bunt single to score twice. 
 
Grace Paredes homered with one out in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 4-1. 
 
Seton Hill took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game two.  Nina Grandey singled to lead off the inning.  Mackenzie Zang was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second.  Camryn Murphy drew a walk to load the bases with no one out.  Morgan Toal singled through the left side of the infield to give SHU a 1-0 lead with no one out.  Charleston then got a line out double play and strikeout to escape the jam. 
 
Charleston scored three times in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead over the Griffins. 
 
Three straight infield hits from Brookyn Fukushima, Bre Athey and Grandey loaded the bases with one out.  Fukushima scored when Zang reached on a fielders choice to trim the lead to 3-2. 
 
Seton Hill tied the score at three in the top of the third inning on a one out, solo bomb to left field from Paredes.  With two out, Kassidy Wittig singled and scored on a Fukushima double to right center as the Griffins took a 4-3 lead. 
 
The Griffins added another run in the fourth.  Zang drew a one out walk.  She stole second and moved to third on an error.  Zang scored on an RBI ground out from Murphy. 
 
Charleston then scored eleven times in the bottom of the fourth inning. 
 
Paredes, Grandey, Wittig and Fukushima each had two hits.  Paredes homered and doubled. 
 
The Griffins are scheduled to host D'Youville on Sunday in a non conference doubleheader.
