Huge Third Quarter Carries Griffins to Win at the Rock

Seton Hill continued their road trip with a PSAC West contest on the road against Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Seton Hill used a 27-6 third quarter as they were able to pull away in the second half for a 72-52 victory over the Rock.  SHU is now 12-9 overall and 9-6 in the PSAC.   
 
Layups from Helene Cowan and two from Christiane Frye gave the Griffins a 7-1 lead less than four minutes into the first quarter.  Back to back layups from Sakeria Haralson extended the Griffins lead to 11-3 at the 4:28 mark of the quarter.  Over the next three minutes, the Rock outscored the Griffins 9-2 to trim the lead to 13-12 with 1:39 left.  Helene Cowan added a basket before a Rock three at the buzzer tied the score at 15 at the end of the first. 
 
A three point play from the Rock gave them a 20-17 lead at the 7:27 mark.  A layup from Haralson at the 2:53 mark cut the Rock lead to 24-23.  Kalich followed with a basket to give the Griffins a 25-24 lead with 1:58 to play before the half.  The Rock led 28-27 at the halftime break. 
 
The third quarter was all Seton Hill as they outscored the Rock 27-6.  The Rock hit a three to open the scoring in the quarter and extend their lead to 31-27.  The Griffins then scored the next nineteen points as they took a 46-31 lead with 3:46 to play.  Corinne Eisner had six of the first nine points of the run.  Haralson scored five straight points and Mairan Haggerty scored the final four points of the quarter as they Griffins took a 54-34 lead into the fourth quarter. 
 
The Griffins were able to extend their lead to as many as 26 points in the fourth quarter before settling for the twenty point win.
 
Helene Cowan led five Griffins in double figures with 14 points.  Frye and Haralson each added 13 points.  Kalich and Eisner each finished with 10 points.
 
The Griffins will continue PSAC West action on Wednesday evening when they host California (PA).
