Griffins Cruise to Win at UPJ

Seton Hill hit the road to Johnstown for their final PSAC West road contest of the season as the Griffins battled UPJ on Wednesday.      
 
SHU jumped out to a 38-24 halftime lead and defeated the Mountain Cats 69-52 to improve to 16-11 overall and 11-10 in the PSAC. 
 
With the Slippery Rock win on Wednesday, the Griffins can finish no higher than fifth in the PSAC West, meaning they will be on the road for the PSAC Quarterfinals on Monday.
 
The Griffins took an early 8-4 lead over UPJ on three pointers from Ryan Meis and James Rice.  Leading 8-7, the Griffins went on a 13-0 run to take a 21-7 lead with 8:46 to play in the half.  Jimmy Moon scored five of the 13 points during the run. 
 
After a UPJ bucket, Caleb Whitaker hit back to back baskets to give SHU a 25-9 lead with 7:19 to play. Back to back layups from Moon and Dimitrios Sklavenitis extended the lead to 31-15 with four minutes to play.  The Griffins led 38-24 at the half. 
 
Kedrick Curtis scored four points in the first minute of the second half as SHU extended its lead to 42-24.  UPJ answered back with seven straight to trim the lead to 42-31 with 15 minutes to play.  A 5-0 run from UPJ trimmed the Griffins lead to 48-39 with 8:28 to play. 
 
Sklaventitis and Brian Belade answered back with baskets as SHU built the lead back to 52-39 with 7:54 to play.  Belade then scored six straight points for the Griffins as they led 58-47 with 5:07 to play.  Curtis and Moon scored back to back layups to push the lead back to 62-49 with 3:34 to play.  Moon then drilled a three to extend the lead to 67-52 and put the game away.
 
Moon led the Griffins with 16 points.  Curtis finished with 12 points.  Whitaker added nine points.
 
Seton Hill returns home on Saturday afternoon as they host Gannon in a PSAC West contest and the regular season finale.
