Seton Hill continued their four game homestand with a non conference doubleheader with Walsh on Monday afternoon.
SHU scored single runs in their final three at bats in route to a 4-1 win in game one. Walsh scored seven unearned runs in the fifth inning of game two and held on for a 7-6 win to split the series. SHU is now 4-3 overall.
Walsh scored a run in the top of the first inning of game one to take a 1-0 lead. The Griffins got that run back in the bottom half of the inning.
Owen Mandler doubled with one out and scored on a two out single from
Jakob Haynes.
The Griffins took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on a two out solo shot to left from
Braden Durham. SHU extended its lead to two in the fifth. With one out,
Jack Whalen walked and
Owen Mandler singled to put runners on first and second. Whalen scored on a sacrifice fly from
Jack Oberdorf to make it 3-1.
SHU added another insurance run in the sixth.
Matt Frazetta doubled and pinch runner
Owen Sabol scored on an
Owen Henne single.
Owen Mandler, Frazetta and Durham each had two hits.
Jon McCullough earned the win, going 5.2 innings allowing a run on three hits. He struck out seven.
Christian Zilli earned his first save with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
The Griffins finally broke through in the fourth inning of game two.
Jack Whalen drew a leadoff walk. After a pick off
Owen Mandler doubled and moved to third on a single from
Jack Oberdorf. Mandler scored on a sacrifice fly from Haynes. Durham followed with an RBI double to right field that gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead.
Owen Sabol added an RBI single to increase the lead 3-0.
Walsh scored seven unearned runs in the top of the fifth to take a 7-3 lead.
SHU tried to rally in the seventh. After an out,
Joe Fiedor singled. Fiedor moved to third on a single from Oberdorf. Haynes then hammered a 2-0 pitch over the wall in left to cut the lead to 7-6 but two pop ups unded the contest.
Oberdorf led the offense with three hits. Sabol and Sweeney each added two hits. Haynes drove in four.
The Griffins are scheduled to return to action next Saturday in Florida for their spring break trip.
