Griffins Sweep Ohio Dominican After 15 Inning Walk Off Win

Seton Hill kicked off the home portion of their schedule with a doubleheader against Ohio Dominican on Sunday afternoon in Greensburg.  

Aidan Layton struck out 12 as the Griffins took game one by the score of 5-2.  SHU completed the sweep with a wild, 15 inning, come from behind, walk off win as the Griffins rallied from 4-2 down for a 5-4 win in game two.  SHU is now 3-2 on the season.  

After Layton struck out the side in the top of the first, the Griffins scored twice in their half of the first.  Jack Whalen singled to lead off the contest.  After an out Jack Oberdorf walked.  Jakob Haynes doubled in Oberdorf and Dowey knocked in Haynes to give SHU a 2-0 lead.  

The Griffins added three more insurance runs in the sixth.  Oberdorf was hit by a pitch and Dowey singled to put runners on first and second.  Owen Sabol doubled to score Oberdorf and make it 3-0.  After a pitching change, Braden Durham singled in two runs to increase the lead to 5-0.  

Dowey and Whalen each had two hits.  Layton threw six scoreless innings, allowing four hits.  He struck out 12 and walked none.  

Ohio Dominican took a 1-0 lead over the Griffins with a two out hit in the fifth inning.  The Griffins got that run right back in the bottom half of the inning.  Matt Frazetta doubled in Sabol who walked to tie the score at one.  

The game remained tied at one until the 13th inning.  The Panthers took advantage of a leadoff walk, using a sacrifice fly to take a 2-1 lead.  SHU tied the score in the bottom half of the inning.  Oberdorf singled and Haynes doubled with one out to put runners on second and third with one out.  Oberdorf scored when Owen Mandler reached on a fielders choice and pinch runner Noah Sweeney was thrown out at the plate to end the inning and send the game to the 14th.  

Each team left a runner on third in the 14th inning.  ODU scored twice in the top of the 15th setting up the rally for the Griffins in the bottom of the 15th.  

Max Mandler walked and moved to second on a ground out.  Aidan Shephard singled thru the middle to score Mandler and cut the lead to 4-3.  After a pop out, Owen Mandler singled to put runners on first and second with two outs.  They stole second and third and scored on when Sabol singled on a 2-2 pitch to give the Griffins the come from behind win.

Oberdorf, Haynes and Frazetta each had two hits.  Brandon Bergert struck out seven in five innings.  Evan Rossi threw three scoreless innings and struck out four.  

The Griffins will host Walsh in a non conference doubleheader on Monday.
