Seton Hill continued a two game PSAC West road trip with a midweek matchup at Indiana (PA) on Wednesday evening.
The Griffins hit nine of their final twelve field goals as they were able to defeat IUP by a 72-70 margin. SHU is now 14-11 and 9-10 in the PSAC while IUP drops to 16-9 overall and 13-6 in the PSAC.
Two three pointers from
Jimmy Moon and a
Dimitrios Sklavenitis driving layup gave the Griffins an early 8-4 lead less than two minutes into the contest. IUP then went on a 10-2 run to take a 14-10 lead with 15:36 left in the half. A basket from
Kedrick Curtis and a three from
Ryan Meis put the Griffins back in front 15-14 with 14:50 to play. IUP scored five straight before
Sean Dillon hit a three to cut the IUP lead to 19-18 with 12:38 to play.
Both teams went scoreless for the next three minutes before IUP went on a 7-2 run as they built a 26-20 lead with 8:08 to play. Back to back layups from
Caleb Whitaker trimmed the lead to 28-24 with seven minutes to play in the half. Green scored four straight and Sklavenitis followed with a layup to tie the score at 30 with 3:56 left. SHU led 36-34 at the half.
Meis gave the Griffins a 43-37 lead with 16 minutes to play in the half. Back to back threes from the Crimson Hawks tied the game at 43. IUP then scored six of the next eight as they took a 49-45 lead with 12:10 left. Sklavenitis hit a three to cut the lead to one and
Brian Belade put the Griffins up 50-49 midway thru the half.
Sean Dillon answered a IUP basket with a three to give SHU a 53-51 advantage with 8:43 left. He then answered an IUP three point play with another three to give SHU a 56-54 lead with eight to play. Dillon's third three gave SHU a 61-57 lead with 6:20 to play.
Drew Green then made three straight shots for the Griffins as SHU led 67-62 with 4:14 left. Moon followed with a three to extend the lead to 70-64 with 2:25 to play. Down by four, IUP missed the front end of a one and one and allowed the Griffins to run thirty seconds off the clock without fouling. IUP then hit two free throws with 25 seconds to play to cut the lead to 70-68. IUP had three more fouls to give which allowed the Griffins to run the clock to 13 seconds left before Dillon hit two free throws to extend the lead to four.
Dillon led SHU with 14 points. Moon added 11 points and Green finished with 10.
Seton Hill return home on Saturday afternoon as they host Edinboro in a PSAC West contest on Senior Day.
