After a week off, the Griffins returned to action on Saturday afternoon with a PSAC West matchup in Erie against Mercyhurst.
Mercyhurst began to pull away in the third quarter and defeated the Griffins by an 84-65 margin. The Griffins fall to 13-11 overall and 10-8 in the PSAC while the Lakers improve to 16-8 overall and 12-6 in the PSAC.

Helene Cowan gave SHU a 4-0 lead just a minute in. After a Laker three point play,
Hallie Cowan hit a three to give SHU a 10-8 lead with six minutes to play. Five straight from
Helene Cowan put the Griffins in front 15-13 with 1:57 to play. The Lakers scored the final five points of the quarter to take an 18-15 lead.
Mercyhurst scored the first basket of the second quarter to increase their lead to 20-15. A three pointer from Mankins and a
Mia Kalich basket put the Griffins back in front 23-22 with seven minutes to play. The Lakers used a 7-2 run to take a 32-27 lead midway through the quarter. They built their lead to as many as seven before settling for a 40-34 halftime lead.
Mercyhurst began to pull away from the Griffins with a 27-15 third quarter advantage. Mankins opened the scoring with a three point play to trim the lead to 40-37. The Lakers then went on a 13-1 run over the next three minutes to take a 53-38 lead with 5:52 to play. SHU got back to within eleven on a Mankins baskets with 3:53 to play but the Lakers answered with a 7-0 run to push their lead back to 18. The Lakers led 67-49 after three quarters of play.
The Lakers built their lead to as many as twenty one in the final quarter before settling for the eighteen point win.
Mankins led the Griffins with 19 points.
Hallie Cowan finished with 16 and
Helene Cowan added 12.
The Griffins will continue PSAC West action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Indiana (PA).
