Seton Hill hit the road after a week off for a PSAC West contest in Erie against Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon.
After the Lakers scored the first basket of the game,
Dimitrios Sklavenitis scored the next two baskets to give SHU an early lead. A three from Sklavenitis put the Griffins in front 7-6 with 16:45 to play. The Lakers then went on a 10-0 run as they took a 16-7 lead with 14:23 to play in the half. The Lakers led 21-13 midway through the half.
Trailing 25-18, the Griffins went on an 8-0 run to take a 26-25 lead with 4:05 to play. SHU used three point plays from
Kedrick Curtis and
Jimmy Moon in the run.
Drew Green hit two three pointers in the final three minutes to give SHU a 34-30 halftime lead.
The Lakers opened the second half on a 9-2 run as they took a 39-36 lead with 15:33 left in the quarter. A three pointer from
James Rice and three free throws from
Camden Brewer gave SHU a 43-41 lead with 13:56 to play. Mercyhurst then went on a 11-3 run as they built a 52-46 lead forcing a SHU timeout with 8:37 to play in the half.
A basket from
Brian Belade and a three from Rice trimmed the lead to 52-51 with 7:35 left. A three from Meis cut the lead back to 57-55 with 4:31 to play. The Lakers hit a big three with 1:47 to play to go up 62-56.
Curtis and Green each had 12 for the Griffins. Sklavenitis added 10 points.
Seton Hill will continue their roadtrip on Wednesday as they travel to Indiana (PA) for another PSAC West contest.
