Seton Hill Swept at Francis Marion

Seton Hill began their 2024 season with a road doubleheader in Florence, SC as they battled Francis Marion. 
 
Francis Marion defeated the Griffins 3-0 in the season opener.  The Patriots completed the doubleheader sweep of the Griffins with a 5-1 win in game two.  SHU falls to 0-2 on the season while the Patriots improve to 6-2.
 
Seton Hill threatened in the top of the fourth inning of game one.  Jack Oberdorf led off the inning with an infield single.  After a strikeout, he stole second.  Owen Sabol singled to put runners on first and third.  Oberdorf was out at the plate when Matt Frazetta reached on a fielders choice.  Owen Mandler was hit by a pitch to load the bases but the Patriots got a strikeout looking to end the inning. 
 
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.  The used a two out RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.  Owen Mandler walked to lead off the seventh and got to third with two outs but a strikeout looking ended the inning. 
 
Francis Marion scored single runs in the seventh and eighth to take a 3-0 lead. 
 
Oberdorf led the offense with two hits.  Aidan Layton threw five scoreless innings in his first start.  He allowed three hits and struck out two. 
 
Francis Marion took advantage of a Griffin error in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead in game two.
 
The Griffins tied the score at one in the top of the second.  With two outs, Owen Henne walked.  He scored on an Aidan Shephard double. 
 
The Patriots took advantage of three walks in the third inning as they scored three times to take a 4-1 lead.  They added an insurance run in the sixth. 
 
Five Griffins each had a hit in the game.  Max Mandler and Shephard each doubled.  Derek Fravel worked 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. 
 
The Griffins and Patriots will close out the three game set on Sunday afternoon.
