Griffins Win PSAC West Contest Over Clarion

Seton Hill continued a two game home stand with a PSAC West battle with Clarion on Saturday afternoon in the McKenna Center.

The Griffins built a fourteen point halftime lead and defeated the Golden Eagles by the score of 76-70.  SHU is now 13-10 overall and 8-9 in the PSAC.

Ryan Meis scored the first five points of the contest as the Griffins took an early 5-0 lead.  A three pointer from Dimitrios Sklavenitis put the Griffins in front 8-4 just four minutes into the contest.  Clarion tied the score at eight but three baskets from Brian Belade, Caleb Whitaker and James Rice gave SHU a 14-8 lead with 12:12 to play.

A three from Meis extended the lead to 19-11 with 8:10 to play.  Clarion scored the next seven before Rice hit a three to put SHU up 24-18 with 5:32 left in the first half.  Dillon followed with a layup and after back to back threes from Rice and Drew Green, SHU led 30-18 with 2:55 to play.  SHU led 35-21 at the halftime break.

Back to back baskets from Sklavenitis and Curtis gave SHU a 39-21 lead less than a minute into the second half.  Clarion responded with a 13-2 run to cut the lead to 41-34 with 15 minutes to play.  Clarion cut the lead to five but two Sklavenitis free throws gave SHU a 55-47 lead midway through the half.

Clarion scored the next seven to trim the lead to one 55-54 with 7:34 left.  Rice answered the run with a three point play and after a three from Green, SHU led 61-54 with 6:33 to play.  Another three pointer from Green gave SHU an eight point advantage, 66-58, with 3:19 left.  Clarion would get as close as four points down the stretch but the Griffins went seven for nine from the line over the final minute twenty to close out the win.

Meis led the Griffins with 15 points.  Green tossed in 14 points.  Sklavenitis and Rice each scored 12.  Moon pulled down 10 rebounds.

Seton Hill will be off for a week before traveling to Mercyhurst next Saturday for another PSAC West contest.
