Griffins Defeat Kutztown in PSAC Crossover Action

Seton Hill concluded their weekend in eastern PA as part of their PSAC Crossover weekend as they traveled to Kutztown on Saturday afternoon.  

The Griffins outscored the Golden Bears 41-35 in the second half as they rallied for an 85-80 victory over Kutztown.  SHU is now 9-2 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC.  

The first four minutes of the first half featured three ties as the teams got off to fast starts.  Kutztown then used a 10-0 run over a two minute span as they took an 18-10 lead over the Griffins.  Back to back baskets from Gabe Gillespie trimmed the lead to 22-21 at the midway point of the first half.  

Kutztown continued to lead and were able to build their lead to 36-27 with 6:07 left in the first half.  An Edir Ortiz basket and back to back threes from Gage Lattimore and Ryan Meis hit threes as the Griffins cut the lead to 36-35 with 3:21 left.  SHU took a 44-42 lead on a three pointer from Lattimore with 8 seconds to play but the Golden Bears hit a three at the buzzer to take a 45-44 lead at the halftime break.  

Ortiz hit a three and Lattimore followed with a basket as the Griffins took a 49-45 lead early in the half.  Kutztown answered with seven straight to take a 52-49 lead with 16:35 to play.  Over a three minute stretch the Griffins went on an 8-1 run as they took a 62-54 lead with 10:51 left.  

Layups from Lattimore and Brian Belade pushed the lead to 68-56 with 8:48 to play.  The lead was thirteen points, 77-64, with just over four minutes to play.  SHU hit 8 of 8 free throws down the stretch to close out the win.  

Meis and Gillespie each scored 18 points to lead the Griffins.  Lattimore added 16 points.  Ortiz also reached double figures with 15 points.  James Rice just missed double figures with nine points.  

The Griffins will travel to Chestnut Hill next Saturday.
