Seton Hill returned to conference play on Friday afternoon with a PSAC Crossover matchup at Millersville.
The Griffins overcame a slow start and were able to take a halftime lead that they would never give up in a 63-62 victory over the Marauders. SHU is now 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC. Millersville falls to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC.
Millersville got off to a quick start on the Griffins as they scored the game's first twelve points and led 12-0 just over three minutes into the contest. Two
Mia Kalich free throws and a three pointer from
Christiane Frye trimmed the lead to 13-5 with 3:33 left in the quarter. Two
Hallie Cowan free throws and a three point play from
Shaye Bailey had the Griffins trailing 16-10 with just over two minutes left. SHU closed the quarter on a 6-0 run as they cut the lead to 19-16.
Back to back layups from Frye and
Sakeria Haralson cut the lead to 21-20 with 6:37 left in the first half. Another 5-0 run put the Griffins in front 25-23 with 4:51 to play. A free throw from Kalich and a Bailey three pointer gave SHU a lead they would not give up again at 34-30 with 1:49 to play. The Griffins led 36-34 at the halftime break.
The Marauders tied the score at 36 but Frye drilled a thee and
Hallie Cowan added a basket as the Griffins retook a 41-36 lead early in the third quarter. A 6-0 run pushed the Griffin advantage to 47-38 midway through the quarter. Millersville trimmed the lead to 51-46 at the end of the third quarter.
SHU pushed the lead back to ten with a Kalich basket and
Hallie Cowan three pointer early in the fourth quarter. Millersville cut the lead to four before
Paula Llovich hit a three to push the lead back to 59-52 with 6:32 left. Millersville used a 7-0 run to trim the lead to 61-59 with just over three minutes left. Kalich pushed the advantage back to four with a bucket at the three minute mark. The Marauders had a chance to tie late in the contest but settled for a two pointer at the buzzer to drop the game by a point.
Frye and
Hallie Cowan each scored 12 in the contest.
Helene Cowan tossed in 11 in the win. Bailey also reached double figures with 10 points.
SHU will continue PSAC Crossover play on Saturday when they travel to Kutztown.
