Seton Hill returned to conference action as they made the trip to Millersville for a PSAC Crossover on Friday evening.
Ryan Meis' layup with 10 seconds left in double overtime gave the Griffins a 92-90 win over the Marauders. SHU is now 8-2 overall and 1-2 in the PSAC while Millersville falls to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the PSAC.
The teams exchanged baskets over the first five minutes of the contest as there were five ties, the final one coming at 10-10 with 15:10 left on a basket from
Brandon Coury.
Gage Lattimore and
Kaspar Martenson followed with baskets and
Edir Ortiz hit a free throw as the Griffins took a 15-10 lead with 12:15 left in the half. A hook shot from Martenson extended the SHU lead to 17-12 at the midway point of the half.
Two
Kedrick Curtis free throws pushed the SHU lead to 21-15 with 7:49 to play. A 5-0 Marauder run cut the lead to 21-20 with 5:53 left. Ortiz went 1-2 from the line and Curtis hit a layup as SHU led 24-20 with five minutes to play. The Marauders scored seven straight as they took a 27-24 lead with 2:46 to play. The Griffins closed the half on an 8-1 run as they took a 32-28 lead into the halftime break.
Seton Hill opened the second half with a quick 5-0 run as they built a 37-28 lead less than two minutes into the half. A pair of
Gabe Gillespie free throws gave SHU a seven point lead with 16:27 to play. Back to back layups from Coury and Lattimore extended the lead to 45-36 with 14:58 left in the half. The Griffins led the Marauders 52-45 midway through the half.
Millersville responded with a 7-0 run to tie the game at 52 with 8:12 left in the half. The Marauders took a 57-53 lead with 6:30 left.
James Rice and Gillespie hit buckets to trim the lead to 58-57 with 5:39 left. Millersville took a 62-57 lead with five minutes left. The Marauders led 68-60 with 3:32 to play in regulation. Lattimore and Ortiz hit threes and Gillespie hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 68 with 54 seconds left. Lattimore's layup at the buzzer tied the score at 71 sending the game to overtime.
The Griffins were able to build an 82-74 lead with 1:39 left in the first overtime period. Three turnovers from the Griffins allowed the Marauders to tie the game at 82 on two free throws with 1 second to play, sending the game into a second overtime period.
Ryan Meis and
Camden Brewer hit three pointers to open the second overtime period as SHU took an 88-84 lead with 2:25 to play. Millersville battled back to tie the score at 90 with less than a minute to play. Meis then got a steal and layup with 10 seconds left to give SHU a 92-90 lead. Blocks from
Brian Belade and Martenson kept the Marauders off the scoreboard in the final seconds.
Lattimore led the Griffins with 21 points. Gillespie added 18 points and Ortiz tossed in 13.
The Griffins will continue PSAC Crossover action on Saturday afternoon with a matchup at Kutztown.
