Seton Hill continued conference play on Saturday afternoon with a PSAC Crossover matchup at West Chester.
The Griffins used a 27-14 second quarter advantage and hung on for a 78-73 PSAC Crossover win over the Golden Rams. SHU is now 12-0 overall and 6-0 in the PSAC.
The Griffins took an early 8-5 lead behind five points from
Christiane Frye. SHU extended their lead to 17-11 at the midway point of the quarter on two free throws from Frye. West Chester responded with an 8-0 run as they took a 19-17 lead with 2:55 left in the quarter. The Rams extended their lead to 24-19 before
Shaye Bailey hit a three at the buzzer to trim the lead to 24-22.
Two baskets from the Golden Rams pushed their lead to 28-24 with 8:10 left in the half. The Griffins then scored the next six points as they retook the lead, 30-28 with 7:03 to play on a
Sakeria Haralson layup. A three from
Hallie Cowan pushed the SHU lead to 37-30 with 5:31 left in the half. SHU took their largest lead of the half on another three from
Hallie Cowan as SHU led 49-36 late in the half. SHU led 49-38 at the halftime break.
A driving layup from Frye gave SHU a 56-45 lead with 5:49 to play in the third. West Chester answered with an 8-0 run as they cut the lead to 56-53 with 2:57 left. The Griffins then scored the final seven points of the quarter in the final minute as they took a 63-53 lead after a
Helene Cowan three at the end of the quarter.
West Chester scored the opening four points of the fourth quarter to cut the lead back to 63-57. Back to back baskets from Frye and another three from
Hallie Cowan pushed the Griffins lead to 70-59 with 6:12 left. The Golden Rams hit two three pointers as they cut the Griffins lead to 74-70 with 36 seconds left. The Griffins hit four free throws to put the game away.
Frye led the Griffins with a double double of 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Helene Cowan added 15 points. Kalich had a double double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Hallie Cowan finished with 14 points.
SHU will continue action on Sunday with a non conference matchup when they travel to Holy Family.
