Seton Hill hosted East Stroudsburg on Wednesday afternoon in a PSAC Crossover matchup.
The Griffins used a strong second quarter as they were able to defeat the Warriors 79-69 to run their season opening win streak to eleven. The Griffins are now 11-0 overall and 5-0 in the PSAC while ESU falls to 3-6 overall and 0-4 in the PSAC. Â
Helene Cowan opened the scoring with a three pointer just ten seconds into the contest. Midway through the quarter, the Warriors held a 14-10 lead. SHU responded with a 7-0 run on a pair of free throws from
Christiane Frye and
Abby Mankins and a three from
Helene Cowan as the Griffins took a 17-14 lead with 2:13 left. The Warriors scored the final four points of the quarter as they led 18-17 after one. Â
The teams exchanged leads over the first seven minutes of the second quarter. There were three ties over the first seven minutes as well, the final one at 26-26 with 3:19 left in the half. SHU then closed the half on an 8-0 run as they took a 34-26 halftime lead. Â
Hallie Cowan hit a three to open the third quarter scoring and Mankins hit a free throw as the Griffins built a 38-26 lead early in the quarter. The Griffins pushed their lead to as many as thirteen points in the quarter and settled for a 58-49 lead at the end of the third quarter. Â
The Griffins were able to push their lead to 14 points early in the fourth quarter behind baskets from Frye and
Mia Kalich and a three pointer from
Hallie Cowan. Back to back three pointers from Frye and
Corinne Eisner extended the lead to 75-57 with five minutes to play. Â
Frye led the Griffins with a team high 23 points.Â
Helene Cowan finished with 15 points.Â
Hallie Cowan added 12 points. Kalich had a double double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.Â
Sakeria Haralson pulled down 11 rebounds. Â
