Football Falls on the Road at #10 Slippery Rock

Seton Hill played their final road contest of the season as they traveled to #10 Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon.  

The Rock scored 28 second half points in route to a 38-20 victory over the Griffins.  SHU is now 3-7 on the season and 1-5 in the west while the Rock improves to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the west.

After the Griffins went three and out on their first drive, the Rock marched 73 yards for the first touchdown of the contest as the Rock took a 7-0 lead with 10:03 to play in the first quarter.  Ritchie McCormack ended the next Rock drive with an interception he returned to the Griffin 44 yard line.  SHU could not take advantage of the short field as they missed a 39 yard field goal attempt.  

On their first possession of the second quarter, SHU moved the ball to the Rock 12 but missed another field goal attempt.  Later in the second quarter, Jake Cruz and Todd Phillips connected for a 73 yard catch and run to tie the score at seven with 5:43 to play before the half.  The Rock hit a 41 yard field goal on the final play of the half to take a 10-7 lead into the halftime break.

The Rock then returned the opening kick of the second half 97 yards for a touchdown to take a 17-7 lead.  Demitri Whitehead then intercepted a pass in the end zone on the next Rock possession.  SHU then marched 80 yards, the final 15 coming on a pass from Cruz to Phillips that cut the lead to 17-14 with 5:13 to play.  The Rock answered right back with a 37 yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 24-14 with 3:05 left.  

Early in the fourth quarter, the Rock extended thelr lead to 31-17.  After a fumble recovery, the Rock used a short field as they built their lead to 38-14 with 9:46 to play.  Ky'Ron Craggette scored the final touchdown of the game on a nine yard run with five minutes to play.

Cruz threw for 145 yards and two touchdowns.  Craggette rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown.  Phillips had three catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns.  D'Kairi Boone led SHU with 11 tackles.  McCormack added 10 tackles.

SHU will end their season next Saturday as they host Shepherd.
