Seton Hill played their home opener on Monday evening as they hosted Salem in a non conference matchup.
The Griffins jumped out to a 14 point halftime lead and held on for a 77-72 victory over the Tigers. SHU is now 5-0 to open the season.
SHU took an early 5-0 lead in the contest on five points from
James Rice. The Griffins used an 8-0 run midway through the first half as the Griffins built a 17-6 lead. Back to back three pointers from
Gage Lattimore pushed the lead to 26-11 with 7:57 to play in the half. A basket from
Kedrick Curtis gave the Griffins their biggest lead of the half at 17 at 28-11 with 6:23 to play. The Griffins led 38-24 at the halftime break. SHU had 18 points off of Salem turnovers in the half.
After Salem hit back to back three pointers early in the half, the Griffins answered with seven straight points, five from Curtis to take a 48-30 lead with 16:31 to play. Four straight from Curtis gave SHU a 53-37 lead with 12:36 to play. Salem responded with a 15-5 run to trim the lead to 58-52 midway through the half.
A three pointer from Meis pushed the lead to 65-54 with 8:56 to play. Salem hit back to back three pointers to cut the lead to 65-60 with 7:16 left. Each team hit two free throws as SHU led 69-63 with 4:17 left. Curtis answered a Salem basket as SHU led by six with four minutes to play. Salem cut the lead to three but a
Gabe Gillespie rebound put back pushed the lead to 73-68 with a minute to play. The Tigers got back to within three but the Griffins went 4-4 from the line to close out the win.
Curtis scored a game high 20 points. Meis finished with 14 points and Lattimore added 12 points.
James Rice just missed double figures with nine points.
The Griffins will begin PSAC Crossover action on Friday as they host Shepherd.
