The Griffins continued PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Indiana, PA for a matchup with the Crimson Hawks.
SHU led 13-0 at the half but the Crimson Hawks scored all 20 second half points as they rallied to defeat the Griffins 20-13.
The teams exchanged punts on their first possession of the game. SHU ended the second IUP drive with an interception from
David Awuah who returned the ball to the IUP 17 yard line. A penalty moved the ball to the IUP 8 but the Griffins had to settle for a 22 yard field goal from
Ben Zavatchan to put the Griffins in front 3-0. The Griffin defense forced a three and out which set up another Griffin scoring drive. This drive was capped with a 41 yard touchdown run from
Ky'Ron Craggette to put SHU in front 10-0 with 57 seconds left in the first quarter. Â
The Griffins extended their lead to 13-0 on a 27 yard field goal from Zavatchan with 3:06 left in the second quarter. SHU took a 13-0 lead into the halftime break. Â
The Crimson Hawks scored on their first drive of the second half as they cut the Griffins lead to 13-7 with 8:20 to play in the third quarter. Late in the quarter, IUP tied the score at 13 on a two yard touchdown run with 57 seconds to play. Â
IUP took the lead with 4:23 to play on a three yard touchdown run as they took a 20-13 lead. SHU drove to the IUP 29 yard line but an interception ended the drive and the game for the Griffins. Â
Craggette ran for 150 yards and a touchdown. He also had four receptions.  Zavatchan connected on two field goals. Â
D'Kairi Boone led SHU with eight tackles.Â
Quinton Posey added seven tackles. Demitri Whitehead,
Jordan Dorman and
David Awuah each had interceptions.Â
Jack Wagner averaged 40.7 yards per punt and had touchbacks on all four of his kickoffs.Â
SHU will host Clarion next Saturday on Homecoming. Kick is set for 4 PM.
