Seton Hill played their second PSAC West match in two days as they hosted Clarion on Saturday afternoon in the McKenna Center.
SHU won the first two sets before Clarion rallied to tie the match at two. The Griffins then won the fifth set to win the match in five. SHU is now 15-3 overall and 5-1 in the west. Clarion falls to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in the west.
The Griffins took an early 7-3 lead in the first set. SHU then used a 5-1 run to take a 12-6 lead.
Catie Flohr had two kills in the run. Clarion got back to within two before SHU put the set away with a 9-0 run on the serving of
Kendyl Wagner.
Ella Deeter had three kills in the run. SHU won the first set 25-16.
Clarion built an early 9-6 lead in the second set. The Griffins then went on a 10-0 run on the serve of
Abby Oesterling. Deeter had two kills in the run. SHU cruised to a 25-14 second set win as they took a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Golden Eagles built an early 8-4 lead in the third set and never trailed again in the set. SHU battled back to within one at 22-21 on a
Paige Cole kill but Clarion scored the final three points of the set to trim the Griffins lead to 2-1. Clarion built an early lead in the fourth set as well. SHU trailed 17-12 before going on an 8-2 run to take a 20-19 lead. Cole had two kills in the run. Clarion answered the SHU run with a 5-0 run as they tied the match at two with a 25-21 fourth set win.
SHU came out of the gate flying in the fifth set as they scored the first five points to take a 5-0 lead. Flohr had a kill and combined with
Elizabeth Kolkowski for two blocks in the run. Clarion went on a 6-1 run as they tied the set at six. Clarion led 9-8 before the Griffins used a 5-0 run to take a 13-9 lead. Cole was big in the run with three kills and a block with
Emma Meurer. Kolkowski gave SHU a match point and a Clarion service error gave SHU the set.
Cole led the Griffins with 19 kills. Flohr added 17 kills. Deeter added seven kills. Oesterling led the offense with 31 assists. Deeter added 20. Flohr had seven blocks and Kolkowski added five. Wagner led the Griffins with 16 digs.
Maddie Stout added 13.
SHU will travel to Edinboro on Friday for a PSAC West matchup.
