Late TD Gives CalU Win Over Griffins

Seton Hill played their second straight PSAC West contest as they hosted California (PA) at Offutt Field on Saturday afternoon.

CalU scored a touchdown with 14 seconds to play as they defeated the Griffins by the score of 28-21.  The Griffins drop to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the west while CalU is now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the west.  

The teams exchanged punts in the first quarter as there were five punts in the quarter, three from CalU and two from the Griffins.  Both of Jack Wagner's punts pinned the Vulcans inside their own 15 yard line.  

On the first play of the second quarter the Griffins came up a yard short on a fourth and nine from their own 30.  The Vulcans then marched 78 yards on 11 plays to take a 7-0 lead over the Griffins at the 7:54 mark of the second quarter.  On the next Vulcan possession, David Awuah picked off a pass at the Vulcan 48 yard line.  SHU used the short field to tie the contest.  Jake Cruz connected with Todd Phillips on an eight yard touchdown that tied the score at seven.  A big play on the drive was a 51 yard catch and run from Cruz to Ky'Ron Craggette.  CalU connected on an eight yard TD pass on the final play of the first half as they took a 14-7 lead into the halftime break.  

Wagner's first punt of the second half pinned the Vulcans at their own one yard line.  On their next possession, SHU marched 70 yards on nine plays to tie the score at 14 on an eight yard run from Craggette.  Late in the quarter, the Vulcans hit a big play, a 75 yard touchdown pass to retake the lead 21-14 heading to the fourth quarter.  

On their first drive of the fourth quarter, the Griffins tied the score for the third time.  Craggette scored from three yards out to tie the score at 21 with 12:12 left in the fourth.  The Vulcans then used a 13 play, 92 yard drive to win the contest.  The final play of the drive was a 23 yard touchdown run with 14 seconds to play.  

Wagner averaged 51.3 yards over his six punts.  He placed five inside the 20 yard line including one at the one yard line.  Craggette rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns.  Cody Rubrecht had four catches.  Ritchie McCormack, D'Kairi Boone and Wyatt Schussler each had eight tackles to lead the Griffins.  Josh Cohen finished with two sacks. 

SHU will travel to IUP next weekend for another PSAC West battle.
