Cole and Flohr Carry Griffins to PSAC West Win Over UPJ

Seton Hill returned to PSAC West play on Friday evening as they hosted Pitt Johnstown in the McKenna Center.

The duo of Paige Cole and Catie Flohr combined for 42 kills as the Griffins defeated the Mountain Cats in four sets.  SHU is now 14-3 overall and 4-1 in the west while UPJ drops to 14-3 overall and 2-2 in the west.  

UPJ led through the early portion of the first set.  A kill from Flohr and a block from Emma Meurer and Ella Deeter tied the set at 13.  UPJ pushed back to build a 20-17 lead.  The Griffins responded with a 6-0 run on two kills from Deeter and Flohr as they took a 23-20 lead.  UPJ cut the lead to 23-22 before another Flohr kill gave SHU a set point.  UPJ served into the net on set point as SHU won the first set 25-23.  

After UPJ scored the first point of the second set, the Griffins ran off eight straight to take an 8-1 lead.  Cole had four kills during the run.  The Griffins controlled the second set throughout and took a 2-0 lead with a 25-17 second set win.  

The Mountain Cats built an early 9-3 lead in the third set and cruised to a 25-17 third set win to cut the Griffins lead to 2-1.  

SHU took an early 4-2 lead in the fourth set.  UPJ responded to take a 7-5 lead.  The Griffins then went on a 7-2 run forcing a UPJ timeout with the Griffins in front 12-9.  Flohr had four kills during the run.  UPJ then turned the set around as they built a 21-17 lead.  SHU answered back with a 4-0 run to force another UPJ timeout.  Deeter and Cole had kills with Kendyl Wagner adding an ace and Deeter and Flohr combining on a block to tie the set.  After a UPJ kill, Flohr had a kill and Cole added a block to give SHU a 23-22 lead.  UPJ tied the set at 23 before kills from Deeter and Cole ended the match with SHU taking the set 25-23.  

Cole led the Griffins with 24 kills.  Flohr added 18 kills.  Abby Oesterling led the Griffins with 35 assists.  Deeter added 21.  Deeter led SHU with six blocks.  Maddie Stout had a match high 27 digs.  Deeter and Wagner each added 15.  

The Griffins continue PSAC West play on Saturday as they host Clarion.
