Seton Hill began PSAC West play as they hosted Slippery Rock in the McKenna Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins outscored the Rock 31-9 in the first quarter and cruised to a 92-55 victory in the PSAC West opener. SHU is now 7-6 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC. Â
Back to back three pointers from
Christiane Frye and
Hallie Cowan along with a basket from
Abby Mankins gave SHU an early 8-0 lead. Two baskets from
Sakeria Haralson and one from Frye gave SHU a 23-6 lead with 4:19 to play as the Griffins hit ten of their first eleven shots. Haralson scored four more points in an 8-0 run that closed out the quarter and gave SHU the 31-9 advantage. Â
A basket from
Helene Cowan extended the SHU lead to 23 at 37-14 with 6:58 to play. The Rock answered back with a 12-2 run over a three minute stretch as they cut the lead to 39-26 with just over three minutes to play. Seton Hill scored the final five points of the half as they took a 44-26 halftime lead. Â
Over the first four minutes of the third quarter, the Griffins outscored the Rock 12-2 as they took a 56-28 lead. Late in the quarter,
Joi Burleigh scored five straight points and
Nufi Nemale drained a three as SHU built a 68-37 lead. Â
The Griffins outscored the Rock 24-18 in the final quarter to secure the win.
Seton Hill shot 64% from the floor and 47% from three point land while holding the Rock to just 35% from the field. The Griffins also forced 15 Rock turnovers. Â
Frye led SHU with a game high 23 points.Â
Helene Cowan added 13 points. Nemale and
Hallie Cowan each also reached double figures with 10 points. Â
SHU will continue PSAC West play on Wednesday when they travel to California (PA).Â
