Seton Hill began PSAC West play on Saturday as they hosted Slippery Rock in the McKenna Center.
The Griffins outscored the Rock 17-10 over the final six minutes of the contest for a 70-63 victory. SHU is now 9-4 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC.
Drew Green and
Jimmy Moon hit back to back threes to give the Griffins an early 6-0 lead. Moon and
Ryan Meis then hit back to back threes as SHU built an 12-2 lead less than five minutes into the contest. Another Green three followed by baskets from
Kedrick Curtis and
Brian Belade extended the lead to 19-5 with 12:32 left in the half. The Rock answered back with a 6-0 run to trim the lead to eight.
Back to back baskets from Belade and
Sean Dillon pushed the lead back to 27-14 with 4:42 to play in the half. The Rock then closed the half on a 10-1 run to cut the lead to 28-24 at the halftime break.
Meis opened the second half with a three pointer to extend the lead to 31-24. The Rock then scored eight straight as they took a 32-21 lead with 16:55 to play. A three pointer from Moon gave SHU a 46-42 lead midway through the half.
After a Rock three pointer tied the score at 48, Dillon hit a three to give SHU a 51-48 lead 8:14 to play. The Rock tied the score at 53 with 5:50 to play in the half. A layup from
Caleb Whitaker and back to back baskets from
Dimitrios Sklavenitis pushed the SHU lead to 59-53 with 4:31 left. Each time the Rock would cut into the lead the Griffins answered including a three point play from Sklavenitis and a three from Moon which put SHU up 68-61 with just over a minute to play.
Green led the Griffins with 15 points. Sklavenitis also reached double figures with 10 points. Meis and Moon each scored nine points.
Seton Hill will continue PSAC West play on Wednesday when they travel to California (PA).
