Griffins Begin PSAC West Play with Win

Seton Hill began PSAC West play on Saturday as they hosted Slippery Rock in the McKenna Center.

The Griffins outscored the Rock 17-10 over the final six minutes of the contest for a 70-63 victory.  SHU is now 9-4 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC.

Drew Green and Jimmy Moon hit back to back threes to give the Griffins an early 6-0 lead.  Moon and Ryan Meis then hit back to back threes as SHU built an 12-2 lead less than five minutes into the contest.  Another Green three followed by baskets from Kedrick Curtis and Brian Belade extended the lead to 19-5 with 12:32 left in the half.  The Rock answered back with a 6-0 run to trim the lead to eight.

Back to back baskets from Belade and Sean Dillon pushed the lead back to 27-14 with 4:42 to play in the half.  The Rock then closed the half on a 10-1 run to cut the lead to 28-24 at the halftime break.

Meis opened the second half with a three pointer to extend the lead to 31-24.  The Rock then scored eight straight as they took a 32-21 lead with 16:55 to play.  A three pointer from Moon gave SHU a 46-42 lead midway through the half.

After a Rock three pointer tied the score at 48, Dillon hit a three to give SHU a 51-48 lead 8:14 to play.  The Rock tied the score at 53 with 5:50 to play in the half.  A layup from Caleb Whitaker and back to back baskets from Dimitrios Sklavenitis pushed the SHU lead to 59-53 with 4:31 left.  Each time the Rock would cut into the lead the Griffins answered including a three point play from Sklavenitis and a three from Moon which put SHU up 68-61 with just over a minute to play.

Green led the Griffins with 15 points.  Sklavenitis also reached double figures with 10 points.  Meis and Moon each scored nine points.
