Seton Hill concluded a three game in five day stretch with a PSAC West contest on the road against second ranked Gannon on Wednesday evening at Erie Cathedral Prep HS.
Gannon led from start to finish in a 79-56 victory over the Griffins. Gannon is now 22-1 overall and 14-0 in the PSAC while the Griffins drop to 11-9 overall and 8-6 in the PSAC.
Two of the top players in the league,
Christiane Frye and Samantha Pirosko exchanged baskets to open the scoring as the teams were tied at four just over two minutes into the quarter. Gannon then scored the next nine points as they took a 13-4 lead with 4:15 left in the quarter. Three straight points from
Sakeria Haralson cut the lead back to 13-7 at the 3:27 mark. Gannon led 20-10 at the end of the quarter.
Gannon scored the first four points of the second quarter as they took a 24-10 lead early in the second quarter. A basket from
Joi Burleigh and a three from
Abby Mankins trimmed the lead to 24-15 less than two minutes into the quarter. Another Mankins three cut the lead to 27-20 at the midpoint of the quarter. A stretch of ten free throws by both teams limited the scoring over the next three minutes. Haralson hit two free throws and Mankins drilled another three as SHU trailed 45-31 at the half.
Back to back threes from Gannon extended their lead to 59-37 with 3:37 to play in the quarter. A three point play from
Mia Kalich and two free throws from Mankins cut the lead to 61-42 at the end of the third quarter.
The lead for the Golden Knights hovered between 17 and 25 points in the fourth quarter.
Mankins led the Griffins with 15 points. Frye and Kalich each added 10 points. Both Mankins and Kalich pulled down seven rebounds.
Helene Cowan just missed double figures with nine points.
The Griffins will continue PSAC West action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Slippery Rock.
