Seton Hill began a three game in five day stretch with a PSAC West contest on the road at Edinboro on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins hit eight first half three pointers as they built a big halftime lead and cruised to a 83-69 victory over the Fighting Scots. SHU is now 10-8 overall and 7-5 in the PSAC.
Edinboro scored the first five points of the contest to take an early 5-0 lead.
Christiane Frye then answered with seven straight points in less than a minute to put the Griffins in front 7-5 midway through the quarter. SHU then hit three three pointers over the final five minutes, two from
Helene Cowan as they took a 19-12 lead after one quarter of play.
Hallie and
Helene Cowan each hit threes to open the second quarter as SHU built a 25-16 lead early in the action. After a Scot bucket, the Griffins ran off ten straight points, six on two three pointers and the other four from the free throw line to extend their lead to 35-18 with 4:11 to play before the half. Edinboro hit four free throws but baskets from
Mia Kalich and
Joi Burleigh gave SHU the 39-22 halftime lead. The Griffins did not allow a made field goal over the final 7:07 of the quarter.
The teams exchanged baskets over the first four minutes of the third quarter as SHU continued to lead 49-32. Edinboro cut the lead to 14 at the four minute mark but a three pointer from
Hallie Cowan and a layup from Kalich pushed the lead to 57-38 with 3:30 to play.
Sakeria Haralson gave SHU a 21 point lead at the 2:45 mark. Edinboro closed the half on an 8-3 run to cut the Griffins lead to 62-46.
Five straight points from the Griffins in the middle portion of the fourth quarter built the lead back to 72-54 with 4:58 left. The Scots scored four straight but a driving layup from Kalich and another three from
Helene Cowan pushed the lead to 77-58 with three minutes to play.
Helene Cowan led the Griffins with 22 points. Frye posted a double double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Hallie Cowan added 15 points on five three pointers. Kalich also reached double figures with 12 points. Haralson pulled down 11 rebounds.
The Griffins will continue PSAC West action on Monday evening when they host Pitt Johnstown.
