The Griffin softball team made the trip up I-79 to Slippery Rock for a PSAC West doubleheader on Friday afternoon.
The Rock defeated the Griffins by the score of 2-1 in game one and then completed the sweep of the Griffins with a 4-0 win in game two. SHU falls to 15-11 overall and 8-4 in the PSAC West.
In game one, neither team was able to crack the scoreboard until the fifth inning. SHU threatened in the top of the fifth when singled to left field and moved to second on an error. She stole third but a strikeout and two ground outs ended the inning. The Rock used a leadoff walk and a two run homer to take a 2-0 lead over the Griffins.
SHU got a leadoff homer from
Lauren Dellett in the seventh inning to cut the lead to 2-1.
Murphy led the Griffins with two hits. Dellett struck out ten in the loss.
Chloe Elliott held the Rock hitless for the first five innings of game two. The Rock scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-0 lead.
The Griffins will host Indiana (PA) on Saturday afternoon.
