The Griffin softball team closed out the home portion of their schedule as they hosted Slippery Rock on a sunny Thursday afternoon.

Seton Hill scored in all four of their at bats as they defeated the Rock 11-3 in five innings in game one. Slippery Rock bounced back for a 4-3 win in game two to earn the split. SHU is now 27-15 overall and 20-8 in the PSAC West.Â

SHU got off to a quick start as
Nina Grandey and
Camryn Murphy went back to back to open the bottom of the first. Grandey hit a line drive homer to center field on a 3-2 pitch. Murphy then hit one over the left field wall on a 2-0 pitch as SHU took a 2-0 lead.Â

In the third,
Brooklyn Fukushima and
Bre Athey singled with one out. They moved up on a ground out and pinch runner
Morgan Hershberger scored on a passed ball as SHU took a 3-0 lead.Â

The Griffins added on in the third.Â
Grace Paredes and
Lauren Dellett drew walks. After an out,
Mackenzie Zang singled thru the middle to score both runners and give SHU a 5-0 lead. After Zang stole second, Fukushima singled to right center field to extend the Griffins lead to 6-0.Â

The Rock took advantage of two Griffin errors to score three times in the top of the fourth as they cut the Griffins lead to 6-3.Â

Grandey, Murphy and Paredes walked to lead off the fourth inning. Dellett followed with a single to right field to score two and give SHU an 8-3 lead.Â
Brooke Cleland singled to make it 9-3. Fukushima added an RBI single and Athey knocked in a run on a fielders choice as SHU took an 11-3 lead.Â

Dellett earned her 17
th win of the season with the complete game effort. Fukushima led SHU by going 3-3 with 2 RBI. Cleland added two hits.Â

Slippery Rock took advantage of three walks in the top of the first of game two as they took a 2-0 lead over the Griffins. The Rock added another run in the second with three hits to take a 3-0 lead.Â

The Griffins responded in the bottom of the second.Â
Brooke Cleland led off the inning, reaching on an error. Zang singled and moved to second as pinch runner Hershberger went to third.Â
Abby Smearman singled to left center to score two and cut the Rock lead to 3-2.Â

The Rock picked up an unearned run in the sixth as they increased their lead to 4-2. The Griffins cut the Rock lead to 4-3 on an RBI single from Smearman in the sixth.Â
Â
Smearman and Athey each had two hits for the Griffins. Smearman drove in all three runs.Â

SHU will continue PSAC West play on Saturday with a road doubleheader at Indiana (PA).Â
