The Griffin softball team had a chance to earn their third straight PSAC Western Division title with one win in the PSAC West doubleheader at Indiana (PA) on Saturday afternoon.
Seton Hill clinched their third PSAC West title with a 10-1 win in game one. The Griffins completed the sweep of the Crimson Hawks with a 10-1, 5 inning win in game two. SHU is now 29-15 overall and 22-8 in the west.
With two outs in the first,
Grace Paredes homered to left center to get the Griffins on the board.
Lauren Dellett singled and scored when
Brooke Cleland doubled to give SHU a 2-0 lead.
The Griffins added two more runs in the third. Cleland singled and later scored on a
Mackenzie Zang single.
Bre Athey doubled to score Zang and give SHU a 4-0 lead. In the fourth,
Brooklyn Fukushima cleared the bases with a double to give the Griffins a 7-0 lead.
IUP scored once in the fifth inning to cut the SHU lead to 7-1. The Griffins added three more runs in the seventh. Athey singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a passed ball.
Camryn Murphy walked and scored when Paredes hit her second homer of the game, this one to left field.
Dellett earned her 18
th win of the season. She struck out 13 in the win. Paredes and Cleland each had four hits. Dellett added three hits and Athey finished with two. Paredes and Fukushima each drove in three.
The Griffins took a 4-0 lead in the first inning of game two.
Nina Grandey was hit by a pitch to open the game. Paredes walked and Dellett singled to load the bases. Grandey scored on a wild pitch and Paredes and Dellett scored when Zang singled to right. Fukushima followed with a single to make it 4-0.
IUP got a run back with a solo homer in the bottom of the first. SHU added three more in the fourth.
Abby Smearman singled and Grandey walked. Murphy followed with three run shot to left center as the Griffins took a 7-1 lead.
The Griffins scored three times in the fifth. Dellett singled and scored when Cleland doubled. Zang followed with a two run shot to left field to make it 10-1.
Chloe Elliott went the distance to earn the win. She struck out six. Dellett and Zang each had two hits. Zang drove in four. Murphy added three RBIs.
SHU will continue PSAC West play on Sunday with a road doubleheader at Edinboro.
