Seton Hill opened their four game set against Gannon with a PSAC West doubleheader against the Golden Knights on Thursday afternoon.
The Griffins took game one by the score of 1-0 with a run in the seventh inning. SHU completed the sweep with an 8-0 win in game two. SHU improves to 36-8 overall and a perfect 22-0 in PSAC West play. The Griffins have won 29 of their past 30 contests.
Seton Hill's
Jon McCullough and Gannon's Kieran Versaw-Barnes hooked up in a pitchers dual in game one as neither team was able to get on the scoreboard over the first six innings.
SHU threatened in the second after a one out double from
Joe Fiedor and a walk and stolen base from
Max Mandler put runners at second and third with one out. Versaw-Barnes was able to get out of the jam with two strikeouts.
In the third, Gannon got runners to second and third with two outs but McCullough got a strikeout to get out of the inning.
In the seventh, with one out, Fiedor singled and moved to second on an error. He scored when
Max Mandler singled to give SHU a 1-0 lead.
McCullough went six innings, he struck out seven to earn the win.
Blake Barker earned the save. Fiedor had two hits for SHU.
The Griffins got on board with four runs in the third inning of game two.
Owen Sabol singled to lead off the inning. Mandler reached on an error on a bunt to put runners on first and second. Both runners stole on a strikeout.
Jack Whalen walked to load the bases.
Vincenzo Rauso singled to score Sabol and give SHU a 1-0 lead.
Jack Oberdorf followed with a two run double.
Logan Vietmeier knocked in the final run of the inning with an RBI groundout.
SHU added four more runs in the sixth. With one out, Fiedor and Sabol singled. Mandler followed with an RBI single to give SHU a 5-0 lead. Whalen tripled to drive in two runs and he later scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-0.
Brandon Bergert went six innings, he gave up two hits and struck out four.
Jack Laird threw a perfect seventh. Sabol led the offense going 4-4. Rauso, Oberdorf and Mandler each had two hits.
