Griffins Pick up Non Conference Win at Wheeling

Seton Hill took a break from PSAC West play as they played a non conference matchup at Wheeling on Tuesday afternoon. 
 
The Griffins scored seven runs in their final three at bats as they rallied to defeat the Cardinals 12-8.  SHU is now 34-8 overall and the winners of ten in a row.
 
SHU got on the board first in the top of the first inning.  Jack Whalen drew a leadoff walk and stole second and third.  He scored on a Vincenzo Rauso ground out.  Jack Oberdorf followed with his first homer of the game as SHU took a 2-0 lead.  Logan Vietmeier singled and scored when Jared Dowey singled to center field to put SHU in front 3-0. 
 
Wheeling answered with a two run homer in the bottom of the first to cut the SHU lead to 3-2.  The Cards added three more runs in the third as they took a 5-3 lead over the Griffins.  The added another run in the fourth as they increased their lead to 6-3. 
 
Seton Hill cut the lead to 6-5 in the fifth.  Rauso doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a Vietmeier single.  After an Owen Sabol single, Dowey doubled to score Vietmeier and cut the lead to 6-5. 
 
The Cardinals hit another two run homer in the sixth to take an 8-5 lead. 
 
Oberdorf homered to lead off the seventh and cut the Cards lead to 8-6.  Vietmeier reached on an error and moved to second on a Sabol single.  Dowey doubled to drive in Vietmeier and cut the lead to one.  Sabol and Dowey each scored on wild pitches as SHU retook the lead 9-8. 
 
Rauso scored on a wild pitch in the eighth as the Griffins increased their lead to 10-8.  Whalen and Rauso added RBI singles in the ninth. 
 
Dowey led the offense with four hits, including two doubles and three RBIs.  Rauso added three hits, including two doubles.  Oberdorf, Viemeier and Sabol each had two hits. 
 
The Griffins will begin a PSAC West four game set with Gannon on Friday afternoon in Erie.
