A Pair of Walk Offs Carry Griffins to Sweep of UPJ

The Griffins began their four game set with Pitt Johnstown with a home doubleheader on Sunday afternoon in Greensburg.
 
SHU walked off UPJ for an 2-1 win in eight innings in game one.  The Griffins followed with a walk off win in game two by a 7-6 score in 13 innings.  SHU is now 18-7 overall and 6-0 in the PSAC West.  The Griffins have now won eleven in a row. 
 
Seton Hill broke through in the bottom of the fourth.  Jack Whalen doubled to lead off the inning and stole third.  He scored on a sacrifice fly from Vincenzo Rauso. 
 
Pitt Johnstown tied the game at one with a run in the top of the seventh inning. 
 
The Griffins walked off the Mountain Cats in the eighth.  Cameron Colwell reached on an error to start the inning.  Whalen singled to put two runners on.  Both moved up on a balk.  Rauso reached on a strikeout wild pitch with Colwell caught at the plate.  Max Mandler was intentionally walked to load the bases and Jack Oberdorf singled past the third baseman to score the winning run. 
 
Whalen and Oberdorf led the offense with two hits.  Kevin Vaupel gave up one run while striking out 11 in seven innings.  Blake Barker threw a scoreless eighth to earn the win. 
 
Neither team was able to score until the fifth inning of game two.  UPJ got a two out, RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.  The Griffins answered with two outs in their half of the fifth.  Noah Sweeney, Whalen and Rauso singled with Rauso driving in the run. 
 
The Griffins took a 2-1 lead in the sixth.  Oberdorf doubled to lead off the inning.  He scored on a Braden Durham single.  UPJ tied the game at two with a two out RBI single in the top of the seventh. 
 
The Mountain Cats scored three runs in the top of the ninth to take a 5-2 lead.  The Griffins answered those runs in their half of the ninth.  Sweeney led off with a single and moved to third on an error.  Whalen followed with an RBI single.  Rauso doubled to put runners on second and third with no one out.  After a pop out, Oberdorf singled to score Whalen and cut the lead to 5-4.  Logan Vietmeier hit a sacrifice fly to tie the score at five. 
 
UPJ retook the lead in the top of the twelfth with a single run.  Sweeney came through with a two out, RBI single on a 2-2 pitch to score Durham and tie the score at six. 
 
The Griffins then walked it off in the 13th.  After two outs, Oberdorf walked.  Vietmeier singled and Oberdorf moved to third.  Owen Sabol walked to load the bases.  Oberdorf then scored on a wild pitch as the Griffins walked off UPJ for the second time on the day.
 
Rauso led the offense with four hits.  Oberdorf and Sweeney added three.  Whalen finished with two. 
 
SHU and UPJ will conclude the four game set on Monday in Johnstown.
