The Seton Hill women's lacrosse team returned home for their final two home contests of the regular season as they began the homestand with a PSAC West matchup with Lock Haven on Wednesday afternoon.
Seton Hill overcame a slow start and was able to pull away over the final three quarters for an 18-8 victory over the Bald Eagles. SHU is now 12-3 overall and 10-0 in the PSAC West.
The Griffins got two early goals from
Skylar Orlowski and
Mila Udovicic as they took a 2-0 lead with 11:38 to play in the first quarter. Lock Haven answered with two goals to tie the score at two with 7:43 left. It did not take the Griffins long to retake the lead as
Megan Bunker scored 42 seconds later to put the Griffins back in front 3-2. The Bald Eagles scored with 1:20 left in the quarter as they tied the score at three.
Orlowski scored just 17 seconds into the second quarter as SHU took a 4-3 lead. Just over two minutes later, Lock Haven tied the score at four. From this point on, the Griffins began to pull away as they closed the half on a 4-0 run.
Grace Agnello and
Hannah Thompson scored back to back goals as the Griffins took a 6-4 lead with 7:16 left in the quarter.
Carleigh Sutfin then scored back to back goals for the Griffins as they extended their lead to 8-4 at the half.
For the third straight quarter, Orlowski opened the scoring. This time 1:03 into the period. Lock Haven scored at the 10:03 mark to cut the SHU lead to 9-5. Sutfin scored two goals 38 seconds apart and
Piper Conlan scored with 1:51 left in the third as SHU built its lead to 12-5. LHU scored the final goal of the quarter as the Griffins led 12-6 entering the fourth quarter.
Orlowski opened the fourth quarter scoring as she scored the first goal of every quarter in the game. She scored just 18 seconds into the fourth quarter. Just 34 seconds later, Thompson scored her second of the game to give SHU a 14-6 lead.
Tori Krapp and Orlowski scored for SHU as they built a 16-8 lead midway through the fourth.
Alaina TeSelle and Thompson closed out the scoring for the Griffins.
Orlowski led the Griffins with five goals and two assists. Sutfin scored four times and Thompson added three goals. Udovicic finished with a goal and six assists while TeSelle added a goal and assist. Sutfin also added six caused turnovers, four draw controls and three ground balls. Bunker finished with six draw controls, five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Makayla Kintner led the Griffins with ten draw controls. She also added two caused turnovers.
Kyleigh Hessian made eight saves in the win.
Seton Hill will close out the home portion of the regular season as they host Mercyhurst on Saturday.
