After a bye on Friday, the Griffins returned to PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader in Erie against Mercyhurst.
Seton Hill scored four times in the seventh inning of game one for a 5-3 win. The Griffins completed the sweep with a 5-4, 8 inning win over the Lakers in game two. SHU is now 22-12 overall and 15-5 in the PSAC West. SHU has now won seven in a row.
Mercyhurst scored twice in the second inning of game one as they took a 2-0 lead. The Griffins cut the lead in half with a leadoff homer from
Grace Paredes in the fourth inning.
The Lakers added a run in the sixth as they extended their lead to 3-1.
SHU rallied in the seventh, scoring four times.
Bre Athey got the Griffins going with a leadoff homer to cut the lead to 3-2.
Camryn Murphy singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Nina Grandey. Paredes followed with an RBI single to score Murphy and tie the score at three. Paredes moved to second on an error on the play and
Alexis Bonatch pinch ran for her. After an out,
Lauren Dellett broke the tie with an RBI double.
Mackenzie Zang followed with an RBI single as SHU took a 5-3 lead. Dellett kept the Lakers off the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning to preserve the win.
Dellett struck out six in a complete game win to earn her 13
th win. Paredes,
Brooke Cleland, Dellett and Zang each had two hits.
SHU took the lead with three runs in the second inning of game two. With one out, Zang was hit by a pitch.
Abby Smearman and
Brooklyn Fukushima each singled to load the bases. After a fielders choice, Murphy cleared the bases with a double to left field that gave SHU a 3-0 lead.
Mercyhurst tied the game with a three run homer in the bottom half of the inning. The Lakers took a 4-3 lead with a run in the fifth.
With two outs in the seventh, Fukushima drew a walk.
Alexis Valencia pinch ran and stole second. She scored on a huge two out, RBI hit from Athey to center field that tied the score at four.
In the eighth, Paredes hit her second homer of the game, this one a solo shot as SHU took a 5-4 lead.
Dellett threw two scoreless innings of relief to earn her 14
th win. Murphy drove in three in the win with Paredes and Athey each driving in one.
Seton Hill will continue PSAC West play on Tuesday when they travel to Pitt Johnstown.
