Men's Lacrosse Atop the G-MAC Standings After Win over #3 Mercyhurst

The Griffin men's lacrosse team hosted third ranked Mercyhurst in an important G-MAC and North Region contest on Saturday afternoon in Greensburg.
 
Seton Hill jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never trailed in an 11-8 win over the Lakers.  The win puts the Griffins atop the G-MAC standings and gives them a key win in the North Region.  SHU is now 9-3 overall and 5-0 in the G-MAC.
 
The win clinches a spot in the G-MAC Tourney for the Griffins. 
 
Andy Davis got the Griffins on the scoreboard first with a goal 1:10 into the contest.  Just over two minutes later, Vincent Cogliandro scored to extend the SHU lead to 2-0.  Connor Zostant scored with 9:03 to play in the quarter as the Griffins built a 3-0 lead.  After the Lakers scored with five minutes to play, Carter Green scored an important goal with just eight seconds to play in the quarter to put SHU in front 4-1. 
 
Jeremy Sforzo and Colin Socker scored for the Griffins in the second quarter as they kept the Lakers off the scoreboard to hold a 6-1 halftime lead. 
 
SHU had 12 shots on goal to just nine for the Lakers in the half.  Josh Miller recorded eight saves in the half. 
 
Kaden Granberg scored a man up goal early in the third quarter as SHU took a 7-1 lead.  The Lakers responded with three straight goals as they trimmed the Griffins lead to 7-4 with 7:37 to play.  Cogliandro and Kage Williams scored two minutes apart as the Griffins built their lead back to five at 9-4 with 3:21 left in the third.  Mercyhurst scored the final goal of the quarter as SHU took a 9-5 lead into the fourth quarter. 
 
The Griffins pushed their lead back to five on a goal from Peyton Gensler with 10:49 to play.  The Lakers answered back with three goals as they trimmed the SHU lead to 10-8 with 2:51 to play.  The Lakers won the face off but Miller made a save and the Griffins were able to use some clock and get a goal from Cogliandro with 1:33 to play as SHU took an 11-8 lead.  Mercyhurst won the faceoff again but could not hit the net with their final four shots before a turnover ended the contest with 10 seconds to play. 
 
Seton Hill finished with 26 shots on goal to 24 for the Lakers.  SHU forced 19 Laker turnovers and held the Lakers to just 17 of 23 clears. 
 
Cogliandro led the offense with three goals.  Granberg added a goal and three assists.  Zostant and Socker finished with a goal and assist.  Miller recorded 16 saves to earn the win.  The 16 saves are a career high.
 
SHU will take on Tampa next weekend in Sparks, Maryland.
