Seton Hill concluded their four game PSAC West series with a home doubleheader against Clarion on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins completed the four game sweep of Clarion with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. SHU won game one by the score of 12-3 before and 11-0 win in game two. SHU is now 28-8 overall and 16-0 in the PSAC West.
SHU jumped on Clarion early in game one scoring four times in their first at bat.
Jack Whalen led off with a single and stole second and third.
Vincenzo Rauso walked and
Jack Oberdorf followed with a three run shot to left to give SHU a 3-0 lead. Atfer an out,
Logan Vietmeier singled and
Max Mandler walked.
Joe Fiedor scored Vietmeier with a double as SHU led 4-0.
Seton Hill added another run in the second. Whalen doubled to lead off and scored on an Oberdorf ground out.
Clarion cut the lead to 5-3 with three runs in the top of the fourth inning. SHU got one of those runs back on a sacrifice fly from
Jared Dowey in the bottom half of the inning.
SHU put the game away with six runs in the sixth.
Nate Dorinsky doubled in two to start the scoring.
Owen Sabol added an RBI double. Whalen and Rauso added RBI doubles and Oberdorf closed out the scoring with an RBI single.
Aidan Layton earned the win with five innings of work. He struck out four. Whalen led the offense going 4-4. Oberdorf, Dowey, Vietmeier, Fiedor and Sabol each added two hits. Oberdorf drove in five.
Game two started like game one with the Griffins getting on the board in the first. Whalen doubled and stole third while Rauso drew a walk. Rauso stole second and both scored on an RBI single from Oberdorf.
SHU loaded the bases in the second on a Vietmeier walk and a Sabol and Fiedor single. Vietmeier scored on a sacrifice fly from
Aidan Shephard as SHU led 3-0.
The Griffins then scored six times in the third. Vietmeier started the scoring with an RBI single. Sabol added an RBI single and SHU led 5-0. Fiedor singled in two while Whalen and Oberdorf each added RBI hits.
Matt Frazetta added a two run single in the sixth to close out the scoring.
Brandon Bergert worked the first four innings to get the win. He struck out eight.
Jack Laird,
Derek Fravel and
Blake Barker each tossed scoreless innings of relief. Oberdorf and Sabol each had three hits. Whalen and Fiedor added two. Oberdorf drove in three.
The Griffins will host Frostburg State in a non conference single nine inning contest on Tuesday afternoon.
