Seton Hill began their four game PSAC West series with a road doubleheader at Clarion on Friday afternoon.
The Griffins took game one of the doubleheader by the score of 9-3. Seton Hill completed the sweep of the Golden Eagles with a 4-2 win in game two. SHU is now 26-8 overall and 14-0 in the PSAC West.
SHU scored three times in the top of the first inning.
Jack Whalen reached on a two base error to open the contest. Whalen scored when
Vincenzo Rauso singled to left field.
Jack Oberdorf singled and
Braden Durham reached on an error to load the bases. After a line out,
Max Mandler singled to right field to score two and give SHU a 3-0 lead.
In the third, Mandler drew a lead off walk and moved to third on a
Jared Dowey single. Mandler scored when Dowey was caught trying to steal, giving SHU a 4-0 lead.
Seton Hill added another run in the fourth.
Owen Sabol singled to lead off the inning. Later in the inning, Whalen reached on a fielders choice and stole second. Whalen scored on a Rauso RBI single.
Clarion scored twice in the fourth and once in the sixth to cut the Griffins lead to 5-3.
SHU scored four times in the seventh.
Logan Vietmeier with a bases clearing double to score three. Sabol added an RBI in the inning.
Kevin Vaupel earned the win for the Griffins.
Caiden Wood picked up the save. Rauso led SHU with three hits while Sabol added two.
The Griffins took a lead in game two in the third inning. With one out,
Joe Fiedor singled and scored on an
Aidan Shephard double as SHU took a 1-0 lead.
Seton Hill scored three more times in the fifth inning. Fiedor led off the inning with a single. Whalen reached on an error with Fiedor moving to third. Rauso knocked in Fiedor with a single. Whalen scored on an RBI ground out from Oberdorf and Durham tripled to score Rauso and give SHU a 4-0 lead.
Clarion scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the Griffins lead to 4-2.
Jon McCullough earned the win with a complete game effort. He struck out six. Rauso and Fiedor had two hits for the Griffins.
The Griffins will host Clarion on Saturday in another PSAC West doubleheader to wrap up the four game set.
