Seton Hill continued PSAC West play as they hosted Gannon on Wednesday afternoon in Greensburg.
SHU used the pitching arm of
Lauren Dellett and two homers for a 3-2 come from behind win in game one. The Griffins rallied from 4-0 down for a 9-6 win in game two to complete the sweep of the Knights. SHU is now 20-12 overall and 13-5 in the PSAC West.
The Knights got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first with two run shot off the scoreboard in left field.
Seton Hill got one of those runs back in the bottom of the third when
Camryn Murphy led off the inning with a bomb over the scoreboard in left field to cut the Knights lead to 2-1.
SHU tied the score in the fourth.
Lauren Dellett reached on an infield single and stole second. She scored when
Grace Paredes singled down the right field line to tie the score at two.
The Griffins took the lead in the sixth. With two outs, Paredes homered on the first pitch she saw over the left field wall to give the Griffins a 3-2 lead.
Dellett earned her 12
th win of the season with a complete game effort. She struck out a career high 15 in the win. Paredes and Dellett each had two hits.
Gannon scored three times on five hits, three of them infield hits, to take a 3-0 lead over the Griffins in the top of the second inning. They added another run in the top of the third inning.
SHU cut the Gannon lead in half in the bottom of the third. With one out,
Bre Athey doubled off the wall in center field. Murphy followed with her second homer of the day, this one a two run shot to left center field.
The Griffins took the lead in the fourth with a five spot. Paredes led off the inning with an infield single. Hegland singled with pinch runner
Alexis Valencia moving to second. Both runners moved up on two wild pitches with Valencia scoring to make it 4-3. Later in the inning, Athey singled to score
Brooklyn Fukushima and tie the game at four. Murphy followed with her second homer of the game and third of the day, this one a three run shot to left center that put the Griffins in front 7-4.
Gannon answered with two runs in the top of the fifth to cut the Griffins lead to 7-6.
SHU responded with two runs in their half of the fifth. Paredes singled to lead off the inning. She moved to third on a double from Hegland. Paredes scored on a wild pitch and Hegland scored on a sacrifice fly from Fukushima.
Murphy led the offense with three hits, two homers and 5 RBI. Paredes and Hegland added three hits. Athey finished with two.
Harlowe Nigh earned the win in relief. Dellett picked up the save with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
The Griffins will travel to Mercyhurst on Saturday for another PSAC West doubleheader.
