Win Streak Ends at Point Park

The Griffin baseball team took a break from PSAC West play with a midweek contest at Point Park on Tuesday afternoon.

SHU rallied to tie the score at five only to see the Pioneers walk off in the bottom of the ninth for a 6-5 win over the Griffins.  The loss ends a 17 game winning streak for the Griffins.  SHU is now 24-8 overall.

Seton Hill took a lead in the top of the second inning.  Vincenzo Rauso led off the inning with a single.  After an out, Rauso stole second and Joe Fiedor walked.  Both stole a bag with Rauso scoring on a error to give SHU a 1-0 lead.

Braden Durham scored a run on his own in the third.  He drew a one out walk.  Durham moved to second on an error and then to third on a ground out.  Durham scored on a wild pitch that gave SHU a 2-0 lead.

Point Park cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the fourth.  The Pioneers added a three run homer in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.  A solo homer in the sixth extended the Pioneer lead to 5-2.

SHU scored twice in the top of the seventh.  With one out, Durham singled and stole second and third.  He scored on a Rauso single.  Rauso moved to second on a bunt base hit from Owen Sabol.  Fiedor was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Matt Frazetta drew a bases loaded walk that cut the Point Park lead to 5-4.

The Griffins tied the score at five in the top of the ninth.  Rauso led off the inning with a single.  After a bunt pop out and strikeout, Jared Dowey doubled to score Rauso and tie the score at five.

SHU got the first two outs in the bottom of the ninth but three straight walks and a walk off single ended the contest.

Rauso led SHU with three hits.  Michael Marinchak worked 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.  He struck out three.

SHU will begin a four game PSAC West set against Clarion on Friday.
