The Griffin baseball team took a break from PSAC West play with a midweek contest at Point Park on Tuesday afternoon.
SHU rallied to tie the score at five only to see the Pioneers walk off in the bottom of the ninth for a 6-5 win over the Griffins. The loss ends a 17 game winning streak for the Griffins. SHU is now 24-8 overall. Â
Seton Hill took a lead in the top of the second inning.Â
Vincenzo Rauso led off the inning with a single. After an out, Rauso stole second and
Joe Fiedor walked. Both stole a bag with Rauso scoring on a error to give SHU a 1-0 lead. Â
Braden Durham scored a run on his own in the third. He drew a one out walk. Durham moved to second on an error and then to third on a ground out. Durham scored on a wild pitch that gave SHU a 2-0 lead. Â
Point Park cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the fourth. The Pioneers added a three run homer in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. A solo homer in the sixth extended the Pioneer lead to 5-2. Â
SHU scored twice in the top of the seventh. With one out, Durham singled and stole second and third. He scored on a Rauso single. Rauso moved to second on a bunt base hit from
Owen Sabol. Fiedor was hit by a pitch to load the bases.Â
Matt Frazetta drew a bases loaded walk that cut the Point Park lead to 5-4. Â
The Griffins tied the score at five in the top of the ninth. Rauso led off the inning with a single. After a bunt pop out and strikeout,
Jared Dowey doubled to score Rauso and tie the score at five. Â
SHU got the first two outs in the bottom of the ninth but three straight walks and a walk off single ended the contest. Â
Rauso led SHU with three hits.Â
Michael Marinchak worked 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. He struck out three.
SHU will begin a four game PSAC West set against Clarion on Friday.
